Every season in College Football, there are teams that are too much hype. In the end, they just are not as good as many thought they would be.

The word for that is overrated. Every single season, there are a handful of really overrated teams in College Football.

Florida State Seminoles

2022 Season: 10–3, 5–3 in ACC play | 2nd in the conference
Invited to play in the Cheez-It Bowl against Oklahoma, won 35–32

Much of the talk about the Florida State Seminoles came on them winning their final six games of the season. The Seminoles do bring back much of their team, including Travis Jordan and Jared Verse.

This team will find out right away if they are legit or not. They get a Week 1 date against one more talented team in all of College Football. Florida State and LSU will play in Orlando. The Seminoles DO play in the Atlantic Coast Conference, so they are going to get some wins.

Placing them at 9.5 wins is what Vegas did. While ten is not out of the question, the hype machine is strong for a team that is not going to win a national title.

Texas A&M Aggies

2022 Season: 5–7, 2–6 in SEC play | 2nd in the conference (West)

How is this team a Top 25 team coming into the season? This does not seem like it’s going to work out. This team went 5-7 a season ago and, in fact, won just two conference games.

Texas A&M brings back some talented players. There is a good chance they would certainly win an additional game or two, but the hype machine seems to be too strong on the Aggies for the 2023 season.

Vegas has the line for their wins at 7.5. That seems fair, but not sure they can get to 8. Taking the UNDER 7.5 seems to be the play.

Colorado Buffaloes

2022 Season: 1-11, 1-8 in Pac-12 play | 12th in the conference

There is one reason, and one reason alone, for the hype machine here. Coach Deion Sanders. The Buffaloes have new players on the roster, sure. But this is not that quick of a rebuild.

If this is as good of a team as many think they could be – Sanders should go into the Hall of Fame for head coaches. We want to see how this talent they put together can play together. Can Sanders coach it to play together?

Let’s pump the brakes on Colorado Buffaloes for 2023. While 3.5 isn’t very many, we would take the OVER there – this team is not quite ready for a bowl game out of the Pac-12.

Clemson Tigers

2022 Season: 11–3, 8–0 in ACC play | 1st in the conference
Invited to play in the Orange Bowl against Tennessee, lost 31–14

Much of the buzz from the Clemson Tigers camp comes from previous seasons. Also – the fact they are in the Atlantic Coast Conference, where there may not be a great team this season, is another factor.

But this team still will be playing under a first-year starting quarterback in Cade Klubnik. This is a team that can win games, but with the talk of returning back to the College Football Playoff – not so fast.

Oklahoma Sooners

2022 Season: 6–6, 3–6 in Big 12 play | 7th in the conference
Invited to play in the Cheez-It Bowl against Florida State, lost 32–35

Lincoln Riley left, and things fell apart in Norman. Oklahoma has yet to see Brent Venables return dividends as the head coach. They were 6-7 last season.

Sure, it was year 1, but some major concerns. Now, the Sooners are playing their final year in the Big 12, where teams are going to be hungry for them. While Oklahoma grabbed some really talented players in the transfer portal, this is still not going to turn them back into contenders quite yet.

The Sooners do not return a ton of production. Vegas has Oklahoma’s wins at 9.5. Taking the UNDER is the bet here for the Sooners.

It will be interesting to see where this list stands at the end of the season. While we think they are a little overrated at the start of the season, things can certainly change, and we could be wrong at the end of the season.
