PDC Players Championship 14 Recap

Australia’s Damon Heta, the fourteenth ranked player in the world, got by England’s Luke Woodhouse, the 44-ranked player to win the title. The final score wasn’t close as Heta beat Woodhouse 8-2.

During the semi-finals, Heta beat the Netherlands Christian Kist 7-4. The PDC Players Championship 14 went to Heta.

PDC Players Championship 15 Preview & Predictions

Heta will participate in the PDC Players Championship 15. But the 14-ranked player isn’t the top seed. That distinction goes to 12-ranked David Chisnall.

The world’s number one, Michael Smith, will also participate in Monday’s tournament. Smith is likely to go off one of the favorites if odds land on players to win the PDC Championship 15.

Other top contenders include 22-ranked Gary Anderson and 11-ranked Dirk van Duijvenbode.

Top Plays to Win the PDC World Championship heading into PDC 15

PDC To Win: Michael Smith +400
Smith, Van Gerwyn, and Price offer close to the same odds. At this point of the PDC Season, it makes sense to go with the 2023 winner.

Don’t worry if Smith underperforms on Monday and Tuesday. Smith’s goal is to win back-to-back PDC World Championship titles. So he’s preparing for next winter’s event and doesn’t always perform his best in these lower level tournaments.

PDC Second Pick: Michael Van Gerwen +310
Smith beat Van Gerwen at last year’s PDC World Championship Finals. There’s no reason to believe Van Gerwen doesn’t step it up again at the World Championships.

The three time PDC World Champion knows what it takes to win the title. Van Gerwen will be ready to roll once the World Championships start.

PDC Third Pick: Gerwyn Price +350
Gerwyn Price fell to Van Gerwen at the 2023 Premier League. The score was 11-5. Although Price lost, we shouldn’t hold it too much against him.

Michael Van Gerwen has won seven Premier League titles, which is more than Phil Taylor. So Price losing to Gerwen at the 2023 Premier League makes sense.

PDC Top Underdog Play:  Peter Wright +1350
The 2022 PDC World Championship titlist withdrew from the 2023 event because his wife, Jo, suffered a collapsed lung.

Wright won the Nordic Darts Masters earlier this year, beating Gerwyn Price 11-5 in the final. Wright was the world’s number one player last year. So if he continues his forward momentum, he could rise to the occasion at the championship event this upcoming winter.
