Gary Anderson Looking To Continue Fine Form

One of the standout players included in the entry list is Gary Anderson, who will come into the event in Barnsley in good confidence. The Scottish star recently landed a second-ranking title this year by defeating Ryan Joyce to claim the Players Championship 24 title.

The two-time world champion showcased his wide selection of skills throughout that recent event and was a fitting winner of the £12,000 purse.

Anderson raised his game to a new level as the tournament progressed, averaging 107 in the earlier rounds against Daniel Klose and Stephen Bunting.

The Scotsman was excellent in the final against Joyce, scoring in the opening three legs, before holding his nervy to land a 12-dart leg to seal the title. Anderson will be hopeful of building further momentum ahead of the World Grand Prix.

Dave Chisnall A Likely Contender

Players in form always deserve extra attention coming into the Players Championship events, and one star that has been in excellent form throughout 2023 has been Dave Chisnall.

He should come into the event this weekend in fine form after landing a second PDC ranking title in just under a week earlier this month by scoring in the Players Championship 23.

Chisnall had previously landed the Hungarian Darts Trophy with success over Luke Humphries, and history repeated itself in Barnsley last weekend, marking the first time this year that the Englishman had won a Players Championship event.

Chisnall was excellent in the final, starting well by holding before checking out at 114 on the following leg. Chisnall’s ability to regularly hit high scores was a key factor throughout the final, and with the form that he is currently showing, he should be a star that goes deep this weekend.

Gerwyn Price Among Contenders

World number five Gerwyn Price will also be among the key contenders this weekend as the 38-year-old looks to build momentum ahead of the World Grand Prix. Price is a former world number one and is a three-time Grand Slam champion.

The former world champion has been one of the prominent stars in the world of darts throughout recent history, winning some of the most prestigious prizes on the calendar.

Price has already landed Players Championship success in Barnsley this calendar year, meaning that he has now won seven events at the location of this weekend’s competition.

The Welshman has landed further Players Championship success in six further locations, and if at his best, he could be challenging to overlook as a serious outright contender this weekend.
