NFL 2021 Preseason: Browns vs Falcons Betting Analysis & Prediction

Two teams that have had very different preseasons will meet in Sunday night’s preseason finale, as the Cleveland Browns will travel to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia to take on the Falcons. Cleveland has looked like a well-coached, disciplined football team during the preseason, and their record shows that, as they enter this one 2-0. The same can’t be said for the Atlanta Falcons, as they have struggled throughout the preseason and come into this one at 0-2. With all that being said, let’s take a closer look at both teams and how they arrive to this Browns versus Falcons matchup so you can bet against their NFL Preseason odds.

NFL Betting Preview for Chicago Browns at Falcons On Aug. 29th

Cleveland Browns Preview

The Browns have high expectations this season. After nearly beating the Kansas City Chiefs in last year’s divisional round, the Browns have Super Bowl aspirations this season. Cleveland is looking for quarterback Baker Mayfield to take the next step and lead his talented offensive squad on a long playoff run. With Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, a healthy Odell Beckham Jr., and Jarvis Landry, the Browns should be able to score some points.

We have yet to see Cleveland’s starters in the preseason, and we probably won’t see them on Sunday either. If they do make an appearance on the field, it will be a brief one. Cleveland has gone 2-0 behind the stellar quarterback play of backups Case Keenum and Kyle Lauletta. While Lauletta saw a majority of the playing time in last weekend’s victory over the New York Giants, the two combined for 226 passing yards. The offense generated 370 total yards.

Not only has Cleveland’s offense look polished, but the defense has looked good as well. The defense has looked solid, and the coaching staff likes the depth that they have at many positions. If the defense can hold its own this season, we like Cleveland’s chances of getting into and making a long playoff run.

Atlanta Falcons Preview

The Falcons can’t wait for the preseason to be over. They have been blown out in both of their preseason games, losing to the Tennessee Titans and Miami Dolphins by a combined score of 60-20. In last week’s game, they lost Matt Ryan’s backup AJ McCarron to injury. Feleipe Franks took over and threw for only 46 yards. With McCarron likely out for an extended amount of time, that leaves Franks as Ryan’s primary backup. Atlanta did sign Josh Rosen earlier this week, so either he or Franks will be the #2 behind Ryan.

Atlanta will be looking for sources of offense this season. After trading Julio Jones to the Titans, and letting many of their running backs leave via free agency, there are some voids in Atlanta’s offense. Mike Davis will be the lead runner, and Matt Ryan will be looking to target Calvin Ridley and first-round pick, tight end Kyle Pitts frequently. Falcons first-year head coach Arthur Smith is known for his offensive schemes, so we’ll see what he can come up with.

It’s doubtful that we’ll see much from the Falcons starting units on Sunday. They have yet to see much action this preseason.

Prediction

The Browns are a 5.5-point favorite in this one. They have looked like the better team throughout the preseason, and we see them beating the Falcons 28-14 on Sunday.
