Rugby League World Cup Games – November 4-6
Four mouth-watering quarter-finals have been set for this weekend in the Rugby League World Cup and will play out as follows:
- Friday, November 4, 3:30 PM ET — Australia vs. Lebanon
- Saturday, November 5, 10:30 AM ET — England vs. Papua New Guinea
- Saturday, November 3, 3:30 PM ET — New Zealand vs. Fiji
- Sunday, November 6, 10:30 AM ET — Tonga vs. Samoa
While these will all be exciting matchups to watch, the only game expected to be truly close is Tonga vs. Samoa.
Tonga vs Samoa (Sunday, November 6, 10:30 AM ET)
The last of the four quarter-finals should be the most hotly contested, with Tonga and Samoa sitting at fourth and fifth in the overall odds to win the Rugby League World Cup.
While Tonga are slightly ahead in the outright odds on +1175 compared to Samoa’s +1675, this match is about as close as it gets, with bookies having it -175 to +138 in favor of Tonga.
Tonga qualified top in their group, defeating Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands, and Wales, while Samoa came in second in theirs, dropping a heavy opening defeat 60-6 against England, before themselves dishing out two 60+ point hidings to Greece and France.
The last time these two sides met was in 2018 when Tonga won 38-22. Both sides will have plenty on the line here, though, as national pride between the island nations is always high.
Add to this the extra excitement around Samoa at this Rugby League World Cup, given the fact they have had a lot of NRL players join their squad, and this should be a fantastic contest.
International Rugby Matches This Week
Outside of the Rugby League World Cup, there’s still plenty of good rugby on.
The international Test window is well underway in rugby union, with Southern Hemisphere sides traveling to the North for their end-of-year tours. Matches to watch are:
- Saturday, November 5, 11:45 AM ET — Wales vs. New Zealand
- Saturday, November 5, 1:30 PM ET — Ireland vs. South Africa
- Saturday, November 5, 4:00 PM ET — France vs. Australia
Each one of these matches will be hotly contested, with the Southern Hemisphere sides looking to assert their dominance ahead of the World Cup next year after patchy results in 2022.
Premiership Rugby Matches This Week
Premiership Rugby also takes place, with Round Nine underway this weekend. Stand out matches are:
- Saturday, November 5, 9:00 AM ET — Sale vs. Gloucester
- Saturday, November 5, 1:00 PM ET — Bristol vs. Saracens
Sales are -526 favorites to win and establish their grip on second place in the ladder, while Saracens are also ahead in the odds, narrowly at -192 against Bristol’s +131.
