Given that each team plays 24 games in the NRL regular season, most of them are now at the midway point.
We are 13 rounds in, with Round 14 set to come this weekend, and you have to say that predicting the top 8 is not all that easy.
My Analysis for NRL Round 14 Top Games
The ladder is tight from top to bottom, with only a couple of teams realistically out of the postseason conversation. The team at the top has 20 points, while the team down in 12th has 13 points, which should give you an idea of how close the battle for the top 8 is likely to be between now and the end of the regular season. Every game is essentially meaningful at this point, but let’s take a closer look at 4 that look just a little better than the rest.
^North Queensland Cowboys -152 vs Warriors +125
Both of these teams are currently sitting below the cut line, but they are both very much still within reach. The Cowboys are currently in the #10 spot with 14 points, while the Warriors are just a single point back, down in 13th. The Warriors have 13 points and know that a win will vault them up the ladder, but the issue that they have here is that they are just 1-4 on the road. The Cowboys are 3-2 at home and have the edge here, but this one could be close.

Brisbane Broncos -156 vs Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks +130
This is easily the best game on the schedule this weekend, with both teams currently sitting in the top 5 on the ladder. The Broncos are down in the #5 spot, sitting on 16 points, which has them 4 points back of the Sharks, who currently occupy the #2 slot. Ther Broncos are 4-2 at home, but overall, they have been up and down of late, splitting their last 4 games. The Sharks have a 4-2 road record but have been on a bit of a slide of late. This one looks to be a bit of a coin flip.
^Melbourne Storm -526 vs Newcastle Knights +346
While this one does seem to be a little bit lopsided, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the team at the top of the ladder, which is where the Melbourne Storm are right now. They are not looking entirely invincible right now, though, as they have dropped 2 of their last 4 games. The one thing that jumps out, though, is that they are 6-1 at home this season, which will make things tough for the Knights, who are down in 11th, 6 points out of the top spot. They are a respectable 3-3 in road games this season.
^Penrith Panthers -263 vs Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles +201
Another very big game, with both of these teams currently sitting in the top 8. The Penrith Panthers very much have their eye on the top spot, sitting in 3rd on 18 points, which has them just 2 points back of the teams sitting ahead of them. The Sea Eagles are down in the #7 spot and will be well aware that a loss here could potentially see them fall below the cut line. They are just 1-3 in road games this season, while the Panthers have won 4 of 5 at home.
