Jorge Martin

No racer wants to see one of their competitors taken out by injury, but the reality is that they also need to take advantage of those moments when they do arrive. Martin is sitting 2nd overall in the standings, 50 points off the pace being set by Bagnaia, and he will be well aware that if the leader cannot go this weekend, it will be a real opportunity to close that gap. Martin finished 3rd last time out, which helped him edge a little closer to the lead, but he needs more of the same to really make things close. Marting finished 9th in San Marino last season.

Marco Bezzecchi

Bezzecchi is another racer that needs to make a big move if he wants to get into the championship hunt, but he passed up that opportunity last week, finishing 12th in Barcelona. While those points helped him get closer to the lead, it was certainly not enough to suggest that he could get into the hunt. One of his worst finishes of last season came in this race, so I’m not sure he is a particularly great bet this weekend.

Brad Binder

Bagnaia was lucky in many different ways last weekend, and we don’t just mean in avoiding serious injury. The racers who are the closest to him failed to really take advantage of his missing the Barcelona race, with Binder only managing 3 laps before sitting out. Zero points means zero impact on the championship battle. The unfortunate thing here is that Binder was in decent form, landing on the podium in back-to-back races before failing to finish in Barcelona. Binder finished in the top 10 in his last 2 races in San Marino, so expect more of the same this weekend.

I would keep an eye on the status of Bagnaia heading into this weekend, as all signs seem to point to him being able to get on the bike and race. If he does go, it will have an impact on the MotoGP odds of every other racer.
