2017 Confederations Cup FIFA Odds For Chile Vs Australia

Written by on June 23, 2017

The 2017 Confederations Cup has gone to the form book through the first two rounds of the group stage games, which mean that the final games in both Group A and Group B are a going to potentially be a little anti-climactic. Before this tournament began, the general consensus was that Group B would be dominated by Chile and Germany, despite the world champions sending a much weaker squad than we would have hoped for. Find the latest FIFA odds here. While neither team has been particularly overpowering through their opening two games, both have managed to pick up 4 points after tying 1-1 in the second round of games. A 1-1 tie between Cameroon and Australia in the other second round ties means that the favorites are almost certainly on their way to the semi-final, although things could go awry if either one of them were to lose their final games. Chile will close out their group stage with a game against Australia in Moscow, and it’s one that you would expect them to win comfortably. The Aussies put on a decent show against Germany, but will be more than a little disappointed at not being able to get a win against a Cameroon team that was definitely there for the taking. Chile will also be disappointed, albeit to a lesser extent, that they did not beat the Germans in a game where they certainly had the better of the chances. A tie in this one would be enough to send Chile on to the next round, but you have to believe that they are going to come out and take away any doubt early on in the proceedings.

Why bet on Chile

It’s fair to say that the Chileans have not really put together a consistent 90-minute effort in either of their two games in this tournament. They were very good in the first half against Cameroon, but relented a little in the second before finally coming away with an efficient 2-0 win. They followed that up by going ahead early through a nicely worked Alexis Sanchez goal against Germany, but then failed to build on that, allowing the Germans to gain control and get the tying game before the half. The second half of that game was played at a pace that suggested that both teams were more than happy with the point apiece. On their game, Chile are an exciting team to watch, and they should be able to expose the defensive frailties of the Australians in the way that Germany did. They will be looking for a confidence building game ahead of a big semi-final game next week. FIFA Odds Why bet on Australia

Why bet on Australia

If I am going to be totally honest, the Australians have been a little unlucky in this tournament. They put in a gutsy effort against the World Champions, going down 3-2 in a game that was as tight as the score suggests. Much of the passion and determination from that game was missing against Cameroon, and they needed a second half penalty kick, which was actually called using the VAR system, to get the point from that one. Australia looked totally ineffective in the attacking third against Cameroon, and gave up far too many chances in their own end, to the point where they will a little lucky to come away with the tie. It will be interesting to see if they put in Tim Cahill from the start for this one, as this is a game they need to win big if they have any hope of moving on.

FIFA Odds Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I expect that the Australians will come out and have a go, especially since they need to overturn a lopsided goal difference. That is going to leave them wide open to counter attacks from a very talented Chile side, and I have the feeling that the Chileans going in front could open the flood gates.
