For the purposes of this piece, we are going to focus on the Copa América calendar and specifically the games set to go on Monday night.

3 of the 4 groups have seen their first set of games played already, but it is Group D that swings into action tonight with a pair of games that could well set the tone for how the group eventually plays out.

We are going to take a quick look at bot games, with predictions for each.

Colombia Vs Paraguay

Colombia will certainly like their chances of getting their campaign off to a winning start, as they have been in very good form in the buildup to this tournament.

They have won each of their last 5 games, including a surprising win over Spain and an absolute trouncing of the USA.

They have scored 17 goals in their last 5 and have also won their last 3 meetings with Paraguay, so easy to see why they are favored to win here at odds of -143, while being favored by 0.5.

The big problem that Paraguay is going to have in this tournament is scoring goals, as that has been an issue for them over the past couple of years.

In their last 5 games played during that stretch, they have managed to score just once.

They only surrendered 5 goals during that run, but they seem incapable of getting back into it if they go a goal down.

This should be a winning start for Colombia, who should win and cover rather easily.

Brazil Vs Costa Rica

That aside, they have only lost twice in their last 16 games in this tournament, so it seems like a longshot that they would lose here.

The reality, though, is that this Brazil side is not as strong as those we have seen in the past, and they have looked frail in defense at times.

They are 2-2-1 over their last 5 games, so not exactly setting the world on fire, but they are still heavy favorites for this one.

This is probably the last opponent that Costa Rica would have wanted to open their tournament with, but if they are to make any kind of run, they are going to need to face teams of this quality at some point.

You have to go back to 2004 to find the last time Costa Rica got out of the group stage, but this is a team in good form, winning 4 of their last 6, with their loan loss coming against Argentina.

They have, though, lost 9 in a row versus Brazil.
