USA vs England

The United States skipped through group play, the Round of 16, and the quarterfinals as if they were practicing. They dominated in group play, beating Sweden, Chile, and Thailand a combined 18-0. They managed to get by both Spain and host team France 2-1. Now, the United States is only a semifinal win away from their third straight Women’s World Cup Finals.

Although Team USA looks incredibly strong, they could run into a brick wall defense on July 2. There are a couple of reasons to like the English to pull off the upset. England has allowed only a single goal during the Women’s World Cup. That’s where the brick wall defense comes into play. They’ve beaten their 5 opponents: Scotland, Argentina, Cameroon, Japan, and Norway, a combined 11-1.

The goal they gave up was against Scotland in their first match. That brings us to the second reason to like England. While the U.S. has played worse as they’ve moved through this tournament, England has played better. The English have yet to peak while the United State’s peaked in their first match, a 13-0 win over Thailand. England is the team to back here.>[?

Sweden vs Netherlands

This should be as tight of a matchup in soccer as we’re likely to find this week. Both these teams are even based on what we see on paper. Sweden has lost once, an 0-2 defeat to the United States in group play. In regards to that defeat, the Swedes had already beaten Thailand 5-1 and Chile 2-0. Sweden didn’t have to beat the U.S. in their final group play match. They didn’t even have to draw.

The Netherlands are 5-0 during the Women’s World Cup. Like England, the Netherlands appears to be peaking. They played their best match in the quarterfinals when they dominated Italy 2-0. It’s difficult to find a winner in regulation in this match. The draw is at +212. That’s the wager to consider.
