2021 Champions League Washouts Head to Europa League

Written by on December 11, 2020

While things certainly didn’t go for them the way they had hoped, a handful of clubs will all have a decent chance at redemption when they hit start Europa League play. Some of the following clubs will flame out quickly after getting overwhelmed in their respective Champions League matches, but other clubs look like they’ll have a decent chance to win it all! Let’s find out who they are right now so you can start planning ahead your bets and place them against their Europa League odds!

UCL Teams That Will Have A Second Chance In the Europa League!

Group A

  • Red Bull Salzburg (1-1-4)

Salzburg has nothing to be ashamed of after nearly reaching the round of 16 despite playing a loaded Group A that featured Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid. Salzburg’s 1-1-4 mark might not look pretty, but then again, the Red Bulls at least competed in every match.

Group B

  • Shakhtar Donetsk (2-2-2)

Donetsk had their own hands full trying to get past Real Madrid and Gladbach, but this team underachieved in a big way in scoring five goals while conceding a dozen.

Group C

  • Olympiacos (1-0-5)

When you score two goals and concede 10 in six matches, there’s no way you’re winning many matches. Olympiacos likely won’t last long in the Europa League after watching their lackluster effort in Champions League play.

Group D

  • Ajax (2-1-3)

For the second straight year, Ajax collapsed in their Matchday 6 home match to come up just short of reaching the round of 16. Still, I think Amsterdam will have a decent run in Europa League play.

Group E

  • Krasnodar (1-2-3)

Krasnodar scored six goals and gave up 11, but they picked up a huge, hard-fought draw against Chelsea in their Champions League finale to get a berth in the Europa League and that says something!

Group F

  • Club Brugge (2-2-2)

Brugge didn’t play too bad at all and really, exceeded expectations by scoring eight goals and allowing 10. This club should make a solid run in the Europa League before bowing out against some of the bigger named teams.

Group G

  • Dynamo Kiev (1-1-4)

Kiev recorded a fantastic 1-0 win over Ferencvaros in their Champions League finale to reach the Europa League. Still, I don’t expect this club to last long seeing as how they managed just four goals while allowing a whopping 13.

Group H

  • Manchester United (3-0-3)

Man U is good, but this club is no longer great. While Manchester put 15 goals in the back of the net and allowed just 10, it wasn’t good enough to get past elite PSG and RB Leipzig squads.
