CONMEBOL – Copa America Quarterfinals Matches

  • When: Friday, July 2

Paraguay (+154) vs Peru (+204)

  • When: Friday, July 2

Peru had a tough first Copa America match. Facing mighty Brazil, the Peruvians could do nothing but watch as Neymar, Sandro, Ribeiro, and Richarlison knocked in goals. Peru fell 0-4.

Most teams would fold after such a devastating loss. Not the Peruvians. Instead of giving up, Peru bounced back with a stunning 2-1 upset victory against Colombia. Then Peru drew 2-2 with Ecuador before finishing group play with a 1-0 victory against Venezuela.

Paraguay impressed throughout the group stage. The Paraguayan’s march to the Copa America quarterfinals started with a 3-1 destruction of Bolivia. Paraguay then lost to Argentina by a single goal before upsetting Chile 2-0.

Even the 0-1 loss to Luis Suarez and Uruguay impressed. Holding Top 10 ranked teams like Argentina and Uruguay to one goal is a big accomplishment.

It’s so much of an accomplishment that even though Peru offers overlay odds, Paraguay is the play. The Paraguayans can turn it on offensively, the 2-0 victory versus Chile shows that, or buckle down defensively. Their flexibility gives Paraguay the edge.

Soccer Pick: Paraguay

Chile +1 ½ (-144) vs Brazil -1 ½ (+108)

  • When: Friday, July 2

Most soccer fans rank Brazil and Argentina first or second in South America. Uruguay is the third-ranked South American squad while Chile ranks fourth. The Chileans, though, didn’t play like the continent’s fourth best tam during the group stage.

Chile drew with Argentina and Uruguay and beat Bolivia 1-0, but what was up with the 0-2 loss to Paraguay? The Chileans were heavy favorites to beat Paraguay. Instead, Paraguay dominated.

Right now, the Chileans are struggling to kick the ball into the back of the net. That’s a problem facing one of the top teams in the world.

Brazil has dominated. The Brazilians drew in their final group match against Ecuador, yes, but neither Neymar nor Gabriel Jesus stepped onto the pitch. Neither did Fred, nor did Thiago Silva, and Alex Sandro and Ederson also didn’t play.

In their matches before facing Ecuador, Brazil blasted Peru 4-0, Colombia 2-1, and Venezuela 3-0. Brazil is good enough to cover this handicap.

Laying the -1 ½ at above even money on the Brazilians to play a beautiful game makes a lot of sense.

Soccer Pick: Brazil
