Top of MLS Western Conference Sees a Lot of Movement | MyBookie’s Expert Previews Set the Stage for Top Matchups this Weekend

2024 Major League Soccer | 29th season of MLS: top professional soccer league in the United States and Canada
Matchday 22: Friday, June 28th – Saturday, June 29th, 2024

Upset of the Week: Back Minnesota to Beat Portland

The Western Conference race is close. LAFC, Real Salt Lake, and the LA Galaxy are all tied atop the league with 37 points.

With the season just past the midway point, there is still plenty of movement that could go on.

Every game will be important moving forward.

Here’s a look at what to expect from this weekend’s matches.

Upset of the Week: Back Minnesota to Beat Portland

Saturday, June 29th, 2024

The Loons were off to an excellent start this season, but everything fell apart over the past two weeks.

Minnesota has taken three straight losses and tumbled to fifth place.

That won’t provide much confidence heading to Portland this weekend.

Minnesota will be without Hugo Bacharach, who has an injury, and top scorer Tani Oluwaseyi is competing in Copa America

Portland won’t have defender Miguel Araujo, who is playing in Copa America. Marvin Loria is out with an injury.

Minnesota’s attack has troubled it recently.

The Loons have produced an xG of .6 or lower in three of their past four matches.

Minnesota played Portland tough earlier this year, picking up a 2-1 victory at home.

The Loons held the ball for 58 percent of the first match between the teams.

Portland is on a six-match unbeaten streak.

There is a chance the Timbers will run away with this match, but betting Minnesota at +275 on the three-way moneyline is a fun dart to throw.

Portland is -124 to win the match, while it is +310 to end in a draw.

Nashville Wants to Take Advantage of Inter Miami’s Absences

Saturday, June 29th, 2024

Inter Miami will be without Lionel Messi due to his commitment to playing for Argentina in Copa America (Look at the Copa America calendar here).

The Herons have a two-point edge for first place in the Eastern Conference but could find that advantage hard to hang onto without Messi.

The Herons are on a three-match unbeaten streak, but will have a tough challenge ahead with Nashville.

Nashville is on a three-match unbeaten streak, including consecutive wins over Toronto FC and NYCFC.

Tomas Aviles and David Ruiz will return for Inter Miami, while Messi, Luis Suarez and Matias Rojas are unavailable.

Nashville lost 3-1 to Inter Miami earlier this season, but has been in better form recently.

Nashville is -106 on the three-way moneyline to win the match.

Inter Miami is +245 to win in regulation, while the match is +285 to end a draw.

The over/under has been set at 2.5 goals.

Columbus is in Excellent Form

Saturday, June 29th, 2024

The Columbus Crew have won in five of its past six matches.

The Crew has been scoring at a wild clip.

Columbus has scored two or more goals in all those wins, including four games with three or more goals.

Columbus will be missing Jacen Russell-Rowe, who is playing Copa America.

The New England Revolution has won four straight matches.

New England has scored two or more goals in three of those four matches.

The Revolution are +190 to win on the three-way moneyline.

Columbus is +117 to win in regulation, while the match is +285 to end in regulation.

Top 2022 MLS Matches to Bet On: Charlotte v NYRB, Kansas City v New England

Previous Betting News

The early part of June is always one of transition for the MLS. FIFA traditionally has an international break early in June and this year is no exception with Nations League action in CONCACAF and UEFA plus AFCON qualifiers in Africa and the final World Cup qualifiers. The MLS mostly breaks during this time, but does have a handful of games to make up, even if teams aren’t at full rosters.

There are only three games this weekend, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. Two of those games get national TV treatment on ABC. New York Red Bulls at Charlotte FC gets the afternoon slot on Saturday while Sporting KC at New England Revolution is on ABC Sunday. Let’s have a look at the best games for the weekend so you can bet against the MLS Betting Lines.

MLS Weekend Games Preview – June 9th Edition | Soccer Betting Analysis

Charlotte Has New Coach for Red Bulls Game

Speaking of transition, it is already that time for expansion side Charlotte FC. After just 14 games they parted with coach Miguel Angel Ramirez on May 31. Most of his staff were also dismissed and Christian Lattanzio will be the interim coach. Lattanzio has experience as an assistant with Manchester City, New York City FC and Nimes among others.

Charlotte will be without leading scorer Karol Swiderski and his Polish teammate Kamil Jozwiak. Alan Franco (Ecuador) and Christian Makoun (Venezuela) are also on international duty as they welcome the Red Bulls to Bank of America Stadium.

Daniel Rios should start up top and he scored against the Red Bulls in Charlotte’s U.S. Open Cup loss last month. First-round pick Ben Bender scored against Seattle on May 29 and has two goals with three assists on the season.

New York meanwhile will be without defender Aaron Long (United States) and Cristian Casseres Jr. (Venezuela). They do still have a couple of in-form attackers in Lewis Morgan and Luquinhas. Morgan scored in the last Red Bulls game while Luquinhas has scored or assisted in seven of his nine starts since coming over from Liga Warsaw.

The Red Bulls are third on the East with 24 goals scored and they have a +9 goal differential. They beat Charlotte 3-1 in the U.S. Open Cup and have moved into fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

At MyBookie, the Red Bulls are favored at +125 and Charlotte is +215. A draw is +240. Over 2.5 goals is -120 and under 2.5 goals is -105.

Revolution Lose Buksa, Head to Kansas City

The New England Revolution are struggling to live up to expectations this year and now they’ve lost leading scorer Adam Buksa. The Polish striker was transferred to RC Lens in France this week, netting the MLS $10 million. He leaves the Revs with a hole in their offense, having accounted for a team-leading seven goals this season.

New England is in 11th place in the East as they head to Kansas City to take on the West’s last place team. Sporting KC have a -13 goal differential and are 3-8-4 overall. They have won just one MLS game since March 26 with a 1-5-4 record in that span.

The road team has won just twice in the last 19 meetings between these teams and SKC leads overall 26-19 with 12 draws. The teams haven’t played since a wild 4-4 draw in April of 2019 as SKC rallied from 3-1 and 4-2 deficits.

Goals have been plentiful in New England games with 45 goals scored in their 13 games. Only three of those 13 games have had a clean sheet, two for the Revs and one against them. New England has scored in 11 straight road games but will need Carles Gil or Gustavo Bou to step up in place of Buksa who scored in his final six games.

Johnny Russell and Daniel Salloi do the heavy lifting for SKC. The team has just 13 total goals in 15 games. Russell and Salloi have four each and only three other players have managed to score in a MLS game this season.

The Revolution are slight road favorites at +135. MyBookie has SKC at +190 to take all three points while a draw is +235. Over 2.5 goals is -119 and under 2.5 goals is -111.

Top 2021 MLS Games To Wager On From July 21 to July 22

Previous Betting News

This week, Major League Soccer matches happen on Wednesday and Thursday. Some of the top matches include Nashville at Columbus Crew and Los Angeles FC at Portland Timbers. Check out MLS odds, analysis, and free picks for this week’s top MLS matches.

Top MLS Games of The Week to Bet On (July 21st – July 22nd)

Wednesday, July 21st Matches

New England Revolution +116 / Inter Miami CF +195

Even though Inter Miami has lost 5 straight, they’re not as huge of an underdog as so many probably thought they’d be. One of the reasons? New England Revolution won their last match, but before the victory over Atlanta United, they had lost 2 and drawn once. Inter Miami is worth a look.

Soccer Pick: Inter Miami

Nashville SC +185 / Columbus Crew +144

On July 17, the Crew broke a 3-match draw streak. Columbus beat New York City FC 2-1. Nashville has won 3-of-5, including destroying Chicago Fire 5-1 on July 17. Give Music City a chance.

Soccer Pick: Nashville

New York Red Bulls +190 / Toronto FC +123

After a 3-match losing streak from June 23 through July 3, Toronto FC has picked it up, winning a match and drawing in their last couple. Toronto beat New England Revolution 3-2 on July 7. On July 17, Toronto drew 1-1 with Orlando City FC. The New York Red Bulls aren’t in terrible form, but Toronto has the edge since this is on their pitch.

Soccer Pick: Toronto FC

DC United +225 / Chicago Fire +102

Chicago Fire was on a 2-match winning streak before Nashville dusted them 5-1. DC United has a victory and a couple of losses in their last 3. The Fire should be the favorite, but it’s hard to back Chicago at the odds. DC is an overlay.

Soccer Pick: DC United

Atlanta United FC +225 / FC Cincinnati +114

Neither squad inspires much confidence. Cincinnati is getting the benefit of the doubt because this happens on their pitch. But Cincinnati has 2 draws and a loss in their last 3. Also, Atlanta beat Cincinnati 2-0 in the last head-to-head.

Soccer Pick: Atlanta United

Los Angeles Galaxy +275 / Real Salt Lake -113

The Galaxy won the last head-to-head. Even though this happens on Real Salt Lake’s pitch, Los Angeles offers overlay odds. Both teams have a win and 2 losses in their last 3. The Galaxy gets the nod.

Soccer Pick: Los Angeles Galaxy

Los Angeles FC +118 / Portland Timbers +200

LAFC is on a roll. The preseason chalk have won 4-of-5 and 3 straight. These two have drawn in the last couple of head-to-head matches, which might be the reason LAFC offers above even money to beat a team that has 2 wins, a draw, and 2 losses in their last 5.

Soccer Pick: Los Angeles FC

Thursday, July 22nd Matches

Philadelphia Union +265 / Orlando City SC -106

On July 17, Philly Union beat DC United 2-1. Before the victory, Philadelphia shows 2 draws and a loss. Orlando City SC has lost twice and drawn once in their last 3. These two have drawn in their last couple of head-to-head but haven’t played since 2020. Philadelphia Union offers overlay odds. However, another draw seems more plausible.

Soccer Pick: Draw

Seattle Sounders +200 / Austin FC +121

Austin FC has a win, 2 losses, and 2 draws in their last 5. Seattle Sounders has 2 wins, a loss, and 2 draws in their last 5. On May 30, these two drew 0-0. If you want to play a team on the moneyline go for the Sounders. But if you want to go for the most likely outcome, back the draw.

Soccer Pick: Draw

Previous Betting News

We have all been so starved of sports over the last couple of months that we are now basically tuning in to every live event that hits the TV. That has to be good news for the MLS, as they will have surely picked up some new fans during their MLS is Back Tournament, which is now close to ending the group stage. After a wobbly start, the tournament has picked up brilliantly and has delivered some fabulous entertainment. The scramble is on now for teams looking to book their place in the Round of 16, as well as picking up points that will count in the regular season standings. The action continues on Tuesday, July 21 with a trio of games, one of which is being played as we write. The Group C game between Toronto and New England is the game that is in play, so let’s take a look at the other 2 games on today’s schedule so you can set down your bets against their MLS odds.

MLS July 21st Games

DC United Vs Montreal Impact

DC United will be watching the Toronto vs New England game with some real interest, as the outcome of that one will have an impact on where they might finish in Group C. That game is sitting tied at 0-0 in the first half at time of writing and given that a draw would be a great result for both teams, it might end up staying that way. If that is the case, then DC United could still potentially win the group with a victory over Montreal. Toronto and New England have 5 points each, assuming we count their current game as a tie, which DC has drawn their opening game to sit on 2 points. A win would put them on 5 points, too, and would almost certainly put all 3 teams into the Round of 16.

Montreal are coming into the final game of the group on the heels of back to back losses, so they have very little chance of getting one of the 4 available best 3rd place finishers, as they would need to win and score some goals to make that happen.

DC United won their last meeting with Montreal 3-0 and I think they get another win here.

Pick: DC United 2 Montreal Impact 1

Atlanta United Vs Columbus Crew

We all had a basic idea of who we thought the favorites would be when this tournament began. To find one of those favorites sitting at the bottom of their group with back to back losses is more than a little surprising. That is where Atlanta United find themselves now, as they have lost both of their Group E games and have failed to score in the process. The absence of Josef Martinez is obviously an issue, but they have looked poor all over the field. Their latest defeat, a 1-0 loss to Cincinnati, was particularly galling, as Atlanta were reduced to 9 men with a pair of red cards in that one.

It may also come as a surprise to see that the Columbus Crew has emerged as a serious favorite at this point, winning both games and outscoring their opponents 6-0 in the process. Gyasi Zardes has arguably been the player of the tournament to this point, but can he and his teammates keep it going?

Atlanta looks like a pale shadow of the team that won MLS Cup a couple of seasons back and I think they are going to struggle again here.

Pick: Atlanta United 1 Columbus Crew 3

Top 2022 MLS Matches to Bet On: Austin vs NYRB, and Philadelphia vs Orland City Highlights Weekend Action

Previous Betting News

There are just two weekends of games left in July for MLS teams as the schedule rolls into the second half of the season. With the summer transfer window in full swing, teams are adding new major players to their rosters.

The last two weeks have also seen some significant trades, with former MVP Alejandro Pozuelo heading to Miami and Canadian National Team midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye going to Toronto FC.

In addition to the player moves, D.C. United hired England legend Wayne Rooney as head coach, and he will take charge this weekend. D.C. also traded Julian Gressel to Vancouver Whitecaps and brought in Miguel Berry from Columbus. United sit in last place in the East as they prepare to face CF Montreal this weekend.

With all those moves, the league has two big games this weekend, with the top five teams facing each other. The Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Union travels south to face fifth-place Orlando City SC.

Meanwhile, Austin FC are just one point out of first place in the West as they welcome the third-place New York Red Bulls to Texas in a cross-conference matchup. It’s time to look at the top matches for the weekend so you can place your bets against their MLS Odds.

Top Major League Soccer Betting Games for Saturday, July 23rd and Sunday, July 24th

Austin Hosting Game of the Week

Both Austin FC and New York Red Bulls played rivalry games last weekend. Austin got on the board for a 1-1 draw at FC Dallas, but the Red Bulls lost at home 1-0 to NYCFC.

Those results left Austin FC in second place, one point behind LAFC, while the Red Bulls are now third in the East. These teams didn’t play last year when Austin was new to the league, so they have never met.

The Red Bulls welcomed center defender Sean Nealis back from suspension against NYCFC, but they were unable to find a goal. Lewis Morgan has a team-best nine goals on the season, and Luquinhas has five.

Austin has scored in 11 straight games, with multiple goals in six of those games. It adds up to Austin having the most goals in the league with 42, or 2.0 per game.

Diego Fagundez had the equalizer against Dallas, while Sebastian Driussi leads the team with 11 goals. Those two have also combined for 12 assists and form one of the most potent tandems in the league.

At MyBookie, Austin FC is a +155 favorite with the Red Bulls at +165. A draw is +235. Over 2.5 goals is -135 and under 2.5 goals is +100.

Union Suffocating on Defense

While Austin FC gets it done in front of goal, the Philadelphia Union protect their net like no other team in the league. The Union are in first place on the season with only 15 goals allowed in 21 games. They head to Orlando City with a +18 goal differential and only two losses on the season.

Philadelphia is in first place in the East by one point over NYCFC, and Orlando City is in fifth place, nine behind the leaders. Goalkeeper Andre Blake has played every minute for the Union this season while posting a league-high eight shutouts.

Julian Carranza leads the Union in goals with seven goals. He had a hat trick against D.C. United two weeks ago and teams with Mikael Uhre atop the Union offense. Uhre has three goals in the last three games and has six goals overall.

Orlando has tied their last two games 1-1, their first stretch of consecutive draws on the season. Ercan Kara leads the team with seven goals, while Facundo Torres has four. Goalkeeper Pedro Gallese has seven shutouts on the season and is 1-1-1 in his career against the Union.

At MyBookie, the hosts from Orlando City are favored at +140. The first-place Union are +190 to take all three points, while a draw is +230. The total goals is 2.5, with the over at -116 and the under at -108.
