Written by on July 13, 2020

With Major League Soccer back on the pitch after returning to play with an all-new tournament, it’s time to take a look at which teams are offering the best value heading into Tuesday, July 14th’s trio of intriguing clashes. Now…with regular season points and a spot in 2021 Concacaf Champions League on the line, let’s find out who’s in action and which teams are looking good against their betting value-packed MLS odds.

MLS Betting Odds and Predictions – July 14th Games

Upon completion of the MLS is Back Tournament, MLS plans to continue its regular season with a revised schedule in home markets, followed by the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs and the 25th MLS Cup.

 Schedule of Matches

  • July 8: Group Stage presented by Heineken begins
  • July 25-28: Knockout Stage presented by Audi (Round of 16) begins
  • July 30-August 1: Quarterfinals
  • August 5-6: Semifinals
  • August 11: Final

Tournament Structure

  • All matches in Orlando
  • Group stage followed by knockout rounds
  • Group stage counts toward regular season
  • Winner earns 2021 Concacaf Champions League spot
  • Pre-tournament draw to assign groups
  • Regular season continues after tournament

Chicago FC (0-1-1) vs Seattle Sounders (1-2)

These two rivals will square off in a rematch of their Week 1 showdown at CenturyLink Field. The reigning MLS champion Seattle Sounders were 1-2-0 through three matches with their lone win being a 2-1 win over Chicago on March 1. Chicago also came from behind to share the points against the New England Revolution in Week 2 with veteran Jonathan Bornstein canceling out Adam Buksa’s opening goal in the 1-1 draw. Seattle has won two straight in this series and three of the last five meetings overall. More importantly, I’ve got to believe the defending champs are looking at this restart campaign through fresh eyes and I expect them to be more than up to the task in this battle.

  • Pick: Seattle 2 Chicago 1

New York City FC (0-0-3) vs Orlando City SC (1-1-1)

New York is coming off a narrow 1-0 loss against Philadelphia in their first tournament contest on Thursday. Orlando picked up a solid, 2-1 win over Miami in the restart tourney opener on Wednesday night as Nani scored in the seventh minute of stoppage time to lift Orlando to victory and Chris Mueller scored at the 70-minute mark of regulation. Orlando came back from 1-0 down to get the win after Miami’s Juan Agudelo nailed a brilliant cross in the 47th minute for the first goal of the league’s restart. These two rivals played to a 1-1 draw the last time they met back on July 10, 2019. The result was the third straight draw between the two rivals after they split two prior meetings. New York has struggled in going scoreless in their last three matches and for me, that makes Orlando the easy pick to get the one-goal win in this affair.

  • Pick: Orlando 2 NY City 1

Philadelphia Union (1-1-1) vs Inter Miami CF (0-0-3)

Philadelphia recorded a 1-0 win over New York in their tournament opener on Thursday as Alejandro Bedoya scored in the 63rd minute to lift Philly to the win. Miami comes into this affair off a crushing 2-1 loss against Orlando in the restart tourney opener on Wednesday night.  Miami’s Juan Agudelo scored a fantastic goal, but it wasn’t enough as Nani and Chris Kueller both scored to give Orlando the tight win.

Now, as these two get set for their first meeting ever, Miami is desperate for a win, but I don’t see it happening simply because Philadelphia is the better and more consistent offensive club in this affair. Philly has scored four goals in their last two MLS matches while Miami has yet to score more than a single goal in three tries. Expectations are high in Philadelphia and I believe the Union will live up to those expectations by getting the narrow win in this affair.

  • Pick: Philadelphia 2 Miami 1
