There has been an awful lot of pressure on France throughout this tournament, as there generally always is when you are the host nation. This was the team that was the favorite to win it all coming in, and other than a few nervy moments, they have lived up to that expectation. France did look a little under pressure in their semi-final game versus Germany, but things turned dramatically when they were awarded a penalty just before half-time. Antoine Griezmann, the leading scorer in the tournament, coolly slotted it home, and then added another in the second half to seal the 2-0 win. France are where they belong in this final.

It is hard to adequately explain how this team has managed to make it all the way to the final. They got out of the group stages by the skin of their teeth, and did not win a game in regulation time until they took out Wales 2-0 in the semi-final. It was 2 goals in a matter of minutes that turned that game, and it showed that Portugal have the ability to score goals if they would just come out of their defensive shell. They are likely going to have to bunker down in the early stages of the final, as you can bet that France will be out for blood early. If they can withstand that, they might just start to frustrate the hosts, and possibly hit them on the break.
