MLS Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update – July 27th Edition

Last week was a big one for the 2020 Major League Soccer Tournament. Round of 16 games produced 4 of the 8 squads that will battle in the MLS Tournament Quarterfinals. Check out what happened last week in MLS, along with the current MLS odds for the quarterfinal matches.

2020 Major League Soccer Tournament Update

What a week in MLS! We’ll start with the Philadelphia Union. Philly used a second half goal from Sergio Santos to go 1-up on the New England Revolution. The goal proved to be enough as Philadelphia beat New England 1-0.

Philly takes on Kansas City in a quarterfinal match on July 30. Sporting KC got past Vancouver 3-2 on penalty kicks.

New York City FC also advanced. NYC dominated Toronto FC 3-1 in a July 26 match. New York’s quarterfinal game is scheduled to happen on August 1. NYFC awaits the winner of Portland Vs Cincinnati, a match that takes place on August 28.

On the other side of the bracket, the lone team that’s made it to the quarterfinals is Orlando. Tesho Akindele knocked in a goal in minute 60 to lead Orlando past the Montreal Impact 1-0.

Orlando awaits the winner of Seattle versus Los Angeles FC. That match happens at 8:00 pm pacific time on July 27.

Two more matches happen before the final quarterfinals match is set. San Jose battles Real Salt Lake on July 27 and Columbus takes on Minnesota on July 28.

MLS Tournament Bracket – Working Towards a Portland-Seattle Finals?

U.S. soccer fans know that the biggest rivalry in Major League Soccer is Timbers versus Sounders. A quick check of the bracket shows that if Seattle upsets Los Angeles FC, they could be on their way to a date with Portland at the MLS is Back Tournament Final on August 11.

Getting past the Columbus Crew won’t be easy, though. If Columbus makes it to the quarterfinals, they’re the squad to beat.

In 3 matches during the tournament, Columbus has outscored their opponents, Cincinnati, the New York Red Bulls, and Atlanta a combined 7-0. The Crew are on fire.
