This MLS is already off to a banner week with Seattle Sounders winning the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday. With a 3-0 home win over Liga MX side Pumas, the Sounders are first MLS side to ever win the CCL. They will represent the league in the next FIFA Club World Cup.
This weekend all 28 MLS teams will be in action as the league hits the one-third mark of the season. The top teams in both conferences go head-to-head while the second and third place teams in the West also faceoff. The East also has a top-four matchup this weekend that should provide some standings shakeup. Let’s have a closer look at the top matches for Week 10 so you can get all set to bet against the MLS Odds.
MLS Weekend Games Preview | Soccer Betting Analysis – May 5th Edition
LAFC, Union Showdown
A late night Saturday kickoff in Los Angeles features the top teams from each conference as LAFC hosts Philadelphia Union. Through nine games, LAFC leads the West by two points, with 22 total points. Meanwhile the Union have 18 points after nine games and sit atop the Eastern Conference by one point.
The Union don’t have a win in their last three games but they have just one loss on the season. The defense has been spectacular with eight goals allowed in nine games but they haven’t scored more than two goals in a game yet this season. The Union have scored just one goal in four straight games and Daniel Gazdag leads the team with four goals on the season.
LAFC meanwhile are all about scoring goals. They have scored seven times in the last three games and 12 goals scored in five home games this season. LAFC have won four of those games at home, with a draw in the fifth.
Former MVP Carlos Vela leads the way with four goals and has added two assists. Jose Cifuentes and Ryan Hollinshead scored off the bench in last week’s 2-0 win over Minnesota United. So far this season, 12 different players have scored for LAFC and they average over 16 shots per game.
At MyBookie, LAFC are a big home favorite at -136. Philadelphia Union is +340 to take all three points and a draw is +290. Total goals is listed at 2.5 with the over at -151 and the under at +119.
Austin Trying to Prove Themselves
Sitting in second place in the West, this is a big weekend for Austin FC to show they are for real The Black and Verde host third-place LA Galaxy after coming from behind to beat Houston Dynamo last week.
Austin is led in scoring by April Player of the Month Sebastian Driussi’s seven goals and they have won four matches in a row. As an expansion team last year, Austin didn’t get to 20 points until game 26 in September and this year they have 20 points after nine games.
The Galaxy fell into third place, one point behind Austin, last weekend when they lost 1-0 at Real Salt Lake. The losses ended a four-match unbeaten streak and VAR overturned a late equalizer from Dejan Joveljic.
Last year the Galaxy lost 2-0 at Austin but won the home game between the teams by the same score. Chicharito hasn’t scored for the Galaxy in three straight starts, his second longest MLS drought. The Mexican striker had five goals in his first six games this season.
The hosts from Austin FC are +115 to take all three points from this game while the Galaxy are +210. A draw on Sunday is +255. The total goals is 2.5 with the over at -140 and the under at -106.
Top Four Battle in East
Two of the top four teams in the East faceoff on Saturday as Montreal CF hosts Orlando City SC. Orlando City sits in third place in the East with 17 points, the same tally as second-place New York Red Bulls. Meanwhile, Montreal is in fourth place with 14 points and could finish the weekend in second.
Orlando has dominated this matchup recently with five wins in the last seven games against Montreal. In fact they haven’t allowed a single goal in those five wins and Montreal has just one win. Earlier this season they won 2-0 at home and their last trip to Canada resulted in a 2-0 win in November.
Montreal are unbeaten in their last six games with four wins and two draws. They beat Atlanta United 2-1 last weekend to match their best unbeaten streak in club history. Djordje Mihailovic leads CF Montreal with four goals and four assists while Kei Kamara has nine career goals against Orlando.
CF Montreal is a home favorite at MyBookie, listed at +100 to take all three points. Orlando City is +265 and a draw is +250. The total goals is 2.5 with the over at -120 and the under at -105.
