LAFC Take On Minnesota

Sunday night’s nationally televised game features the first-place Black and Gold of LAFC hosting Minnesota United. The Loons have had success against LAFC over the last five matches, with no losses. In fact, the only LAFC win against MUNFC came back in May 2018.

LAFC is off to their best start ever, with 19 points from the first eight games. That matches a franchise record, but it is also the best start for any MLS team since Sporting KC had 21 points from eight games in 2012.

They average 16 shots per game with six shots on goal and better than 55% possession. LAFC is led in scoring by former MVP Carlos Vela with four goals and three assists, but 12 different players have scored for them this season.

Minnesota United hasn’t won three straight games since the 2020 season. A big reason for their current form is Emanuel Reynoso, who had a goal and an assist against Chicago on Saturday and two assists against Colorado Rapids in the previous outing. He leads the team with three goals, while Robin Lod has three goals.

At MyBookie, LAFC is a big home favorite at -195. Minnesota United is +490 to take all three points, and a draw is +355. Total goals are listed at 2.5, with the over at -145 and the under at +115.

Galaxy Rolling into Utah

While LAFC is atop the West, they lost to LA Galaxy two weeks ago, and their rivals have a four-match unbeaten streak heading into Utah. Waiting for them is a Real Salt Lake team that is winless in five straight games and scoreless in the last two.

Chicharito gets the headlines and leads the Galaxy with five goals on the season. But the highlight lately has been the defense. The Galaxy have a 191-minute shutout streak going and haven’t allowed more than one goal in five straight games.

Real Salt Lake has a streak of their own, 227 MLS minutes without a goal. Only Bobby Wood and Tate Schmitt have more than one goal on the season, as both have netted twice. Rio Tinto Stadium hasn’t been kind to the Galaxy, with just one win since 2017 and only five in 26 matches all-time.

The hosts from Real Salt Lake are +150 to take all three points from this game, while the Galaxy is +175. A draw is +230. The total goal is 2.5, with the over at -125 and the under at -105.

Battle For Texas Part Two

The first game of the weekend features the Houston Dynamo hosting Austin FC. Last week the Dynamo lost to their other Texas rival, FC Dallas, 2-1 on the road as they allowed two goals in the final four minutes. This time they are the home team against second-year Austin, who is surprising the league so far this season.

Last year, expansion side Austin won two of the three meetings between the teams. The Dynamo won in Houston 3-0, but Austin took their home games 3-2 and 2-1. Houston hasn’t lost at home to another Texas team since 2017, with four wins and five draws.

Austin was impressive again last week with a 3-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps. They have won three straight games for the first time ever, and with 20 goals scored, they lead the league in goals. Sebastian Driussi has six goals on the season, and Diego Fagundez has five assists.

Darwin Quintero leads the Dynamo with four goals on the season. Last year, Fafa Picault had three of their six goals against Austin FC, and he has scored eight times in Texas Derbies in his career.

Houston is a solid home favorite at -140 to win the game. Austin FC is +190, and a draw is +245. The total goals is 2.5, with the over at -125 and the under at +100.
