New York Derby
The first game this weekend is a Saturday afternoon showdown between third-place New York Red Bulls and fourth-place NYCFC. These teams have met twice this season, with the Red Bulls winning 3-0 in the U.S. Open Cup and NYCFC winning 1-0 in MLS action.
The Red Bulls clinched a playoff spot this week by beating the NE Revolution. They have 50 points, six behind second-place Montreal with three games left. NYCFC has 46 points and can clinch this weekend with a win plus a loss by Inter Miami CF.
NYCFC won the Campeones Cup on Wednesday with a 2-0 win against Liga MX champions Atlas. Alexander Callens and Maxi Moralez scored in the win as Luis Barraza started in goal for Sean Johnson and secured a shutout with
Despite the Wednesday result, NYCFC have just one win in their last 10 MLS games. The Red Bulls have three wins in their last four games and just one loss since August 13.
At MyBookie, NYCFC is -105 to win at home while the Red Bulls are +180 to win across the river. A draw is +210 while over 2.5 goals is -116 and under 2.5 goals is -109.
Western Conference Showdown
Austin FC has slowed down a little bit but still rank in the top three in MLS in goals scored and goal differential. They are in second place in the West after beating Real Salt Lake 3-0 on Wednesday. Austin clinched a playoff spot with Wednesday’s win and they will host fourth-place Nashville SC on Saturday.
Nashville, meanwhile, are in fourth place with 46 points, three behind FC Dallas and one ahead of Minnesota and Portland. They cannot clinch this weekend but with a win will have a chance to wrap up a spot in the next Matchweek. Nashville has gone five straight without a loss, drawing 1-1 against the LA Galaxy last week and beating Austin at home 3-0 to start September.
Austin got a hat trick from Moussa Ditte on Wednesday to snap a three-game losing streak. They hadn’t won since August 26 and have two wins in the last six games. But they made history on Wednesday by wrapping up a playoff spot in just their second season and going from 31 points last year to 54 this year.
In the first matchup, two weeks ago, Nashville got a goal from Walker Zimmerman and two from Hany Mukhtar, all in the second half. They also dealt Austin their first shutout since May 8. Mukhtar leads the league with 22 goals, two more than Austin’s Sebastian Driussi in the Golden Boot and MVP race.
At MyBookie, Austin FC is +108 to win at home, while Nashville SC is +172. A draw is +195 and would help both teams close in on playoff spots. Over 2.5 goals is -157 and under 2.5 goals is +125.
