2018 Roland Garros Betting for Men’s Quarterfinals

Written by on June 4, 2018

The French Open heads into its final week starting on Monday, with a final couple of games to determine the quarterfinalists set to go. The bottom half of the draw has already been settled and the combatants put in place, but there is still work to be done in the top half, a section of the draw where 2018 Roland Garros Betting favorite Rafael Nadal resides. We are going to take a look at how things might play out in the top half before making some French Open Betting predictions for the quarter-finals. We are all in on Roland Garros, so look out for more updates and predictions as the week progresses.

2018 Roland Garros Betting Picks for Men’s Quarterfinals

Quarter-Finals Top Half

It is ATP Ranking #1 Rafael Nadal who leads the way in the top half of the men’s French Open draw, and he will have a shot at getting into the quarter-final with a win over Maximilian Marterer of Germany. These two have never met before, but you have to fancy Nadal over the unseeded German. His most likely opponent in the next round is Kevin Anderson who, at time of writing, is two sets up on Diego Schwartzman in the 4th round. Nadal and Anderson have met 5 times in the past, with Nadal winning all 5. Their last meeting was in the US Open Final, where Nadal won in straight sets. The Spaniard looks like a lock to be in the semis. Marin Cilic and Fabio Foginini will meet to earn a spot in the quarter-finals, with this match-up a little less clear-cut. Cilic has a 2-1 edge in their 3 meetings, but the players have split their two games played on clay. Still, you need to favor Cilic here. The other 4th round match will see John Isner go against Juan Martin Del Potro, a match-up that the Argentinian leads 6-4. Oddly enough, though, these two have never met on clay, so this is a bit of a coin flip. Slight edge to Del Potro. If we do end up with a Cilic/Del Potro quarter-final meeting, this one would appear to be a little more clear-cut. Del Potro has won 10 of his 12 meetings with Cilic, so you would need to choose him to go on and meet Nadal in the semis.

Quarter-Final Bottom Half

The quarter-final match-ups in the bottom half of the draw have already been set, and they will start with #20 seed Novak Djokovic going against the unseeded Marco Cecchinato. While the Italian does have a win on clay this season in Budapest, he has struggled on the surface since then, going out early in the 3 clay tournaments he has played in since then. Djokovic has looked good in this tournament, suggesting that he may finally be over the injury that kept him out for a while. I am going with Djokovic to move on. Novak Djokovic is among the Tennis Betting favorites to win the 2018 Roland Garros. The other quarter-final match-up is a great one, with Dominic Thiem set to square off against Alexander Zverev. Thiem holds a 3-1 edge over Zverev in clay matches, but his 3 wins came back in 2016. Their last meeting on clay came at the Madrid Masters earlier this year, and it was Zverev who won that one in straight sets. My Roland Garros Betting pick here is Zverev to move on to meet Djokovic in the semi-finals.
