2018 US Open Women’s Quarterfinals Betting Preview

Written by on September 3, 2018

It’s going to be another busy week in New York City, with the US Open at Flushing Meadow heading not its second week starting on Monday. While some of the quarter-finals have been set on the men’s and women’s tournaments, there are still some games to be played before we get to the final eight in both tournaments. While the top two seeds are still alive and well in the men’s tournament, the same cannot be said on the women’s side, where we have seen more than our fair share of surprises. A clear 2018 US Open betting favorite has emerged in the top half of the draw, but let’s look ahead to see what we can expect in the early part of the week at the US Open.

Tennis Betting Preview for 2018 US Open Women’s Quarterfinals

Top Half of the Draw

It is probably fair to suggest that #17 seed Serena Williams is the prohibitive favorite here, although she did get a little bit of a scare in the previous round, which was all the more surprising given how easily she had taken care of sister Venus in the round prior to that one. She will have a tough go of it in the quarter-finals when she faces #8 seed Karolina Pliskova. They have met twice in the past and have split those two meetings, making this one a bit of a coin flip. I like Serena to win and move on. #3 seed Sloane Stephens is the highest seeded player left in the tournament, and she has been in very good form in the early rounds. Next up will be Anastasija Sevastova, who has been taken to 3 sets in each of the last 2 rounds, although one of those was an impressive win against #7 seed Elina Svitolina. Sevastova, who is in as the #19 seed, has lost 2 of her 3 meetings with Sloane Stephens, so I believe she is in real trouble here.

Bottom Half of the Draw

WTA’s #22 seed Maria Sharapova will meet #30 Carla Suarez Navarro for a spot in the quarter-finals, with the edge in this one going to Sharapova, who has won 4 of 5 against Navarro. The winner of that one will face either #14 Madison Keys or #29 Dominika Cibulkova. The smart money there would definitely be on Keys, as she has won all 4 previous meetings. If it Sharapova and Keys who meet, then I am going to have my money on Keys, despite the fact that she lost to Sharapova in their only other meeting. Maria Sharapova is always one of the Tennis Betting favorites. The bottom half of the draw is wide open, as we still have a player of unseeded players alive in the 4th round. We will get to them in a moment, but this round opens with #26 Aryna Sabalenka going against #20 Naomi Osaka. This will be the first meeting between these two, and I like Osaka to get the win. The other 4th round game will see Marketa Vondrousova go against Lesia Tsurenko, in a battle of unseeded players. I like Tsurenko to get the win in this one, but I think she will be in way over her head if it is Keys that she ends up facing in the quarter-finals.
