We’re through another day at the 2024 Australian Open and there’s another handful of top-30 seeds eliminated in both the men’s and women’s draw. Elena Rybakina and Anna Blinkova also just wrapped up an all-time classic in what will almost certainly be the best match of the tournament.

Day 5 Recap of the Third Round

Blinkova scored a massive upset on Day 5, beating Rybakina in a marathon that included the longest tiebreak for a women’s match in grand slam history. Blinkova won the match 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 20 , with the tiebreak lasting more than half an hour. Both players saved multiple match points in the tiebreak. Blinkova moves on to take on Jasmine Paolini in the third round, but one has to wonder how much physical and mental energy she has moving forward.

Also in the women’s draw, top-seeded American Jessica Pegula is out after losing Clara Burel in straight sets. Eighth seed Maria Sakkari is also out after losing in the second round, leaving just five of the top-10 seeds in contention.

The men’s draw hasn’t been nearly as unpredictable as the women’s as nine of the top-10 seeds are still in contention, although we did get our first big upset of the tournament on Day 5 as French wildcard Arhur Cazaux beat eighth seed Holger Rune 7-6 4 , 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Cameron Norrie overcame a two-set deficit to also advance to the third round. Seventeen of the top-20 seeds in the men’s draw are still in contention.

2024 Third-Round Betting Previews

Magdalena Frech vs. Anastasia Zakharova

AO Lines: Magdalena Frech -230; Anastasia Zakharova +165

Anastasia Zakharova is one of three qualifiers into the third round in the women’s draw and has plenty of momentum after beating Kaja Juva 6-1, 6-1. It’s the first grand slam appearance for the 22-year-old Russian and she’s making the most of her opportunity, but faces a formidable test in Magdalena Frech, who is coming off a win over Caroline Garcia.

Cameron Norrie vs. Casper Ruud

AO Lines: Cameron Norrie +175; Casper Ruud -270

Norrie, as mentioned, rallied to win a five-set affair over Italian qualifier Giulio Zeppieri. Casper Ruud also needed five sets to beat Aussie Max Purcell 6-3, 5-7 5 , 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 7 . This is the marquee match in the third round of the men’s draw with both players ranked in the top-20. Ruud is 3-0 in three career matches against Norrie.

Alycia Parks vs. Coco Gauff

AO Lines: Alycia Parks +775; Coco Gauff -2500

American Alycia Parks is having a breakout performance at the Australian Open, reaching the third round of a grand slam for the first time in her career after a second-round victory over Leylah Fernandez. She has 23 aces in her first two matches and could present a challenge for Coco Gauff, the fourth seed and winner of the 2023 US Open. Gauff, however, has cruised to consecutive two-set victories and looks ready to dominate the WTA Tour in 2024.

2020 Australian Open Round 3 Odds, Preview & Picks

On Thursday, the best tennis players in the world roll into the third round at the 2020 Australian Open. 1-seed Ashleigh Barty has a sneaky tough matchup versus Elena Ryabakina. Also, Noami Osaka battles teenage phenom Cori Gauff in a rematch. On the men’s side, a couple of former Top 10 players, Marin Cilic and Milos Raonic, are in action. Check out the 2020 Australian Open odds, analysis and free picks for 8 top matches!

2020 Australian Open Info

January 23rd – 24th, 2020
Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Ashleigh Barty vs Elena Rybakina

2020 Australian Open Odds: Rybakina +273 / Barty -400

Although Barty has had no trouble, this is a tough matchup. The 2019 French Open winner required 3 sets to beat Lesia Tsurenko. But she turned it on against Pulona Hercog. Rybakina has dominated, though. The young Russian handled Bernarda Pera and Greet Minnen in straight sets. She’s worth backing at the odds.

Tennis Betting Pick: Elena Rybakina

Alison Riske vs Julia Georges

2020 Australian Open Odds: Georges -123 / Riske -107

Even though Riske is a higher-seed, Georges offers lower odds. Riske struggled versus Yafan Wang in Round 1. She got back on track against Lin Zhu. In Round 2, Georges rallied to beat Petra Martic after losing the first set. That showed an immense heart. Back Julia Georges.

Tennis Betting Pick: Julia Georges

Naomi Osaka vs Cori Gauff

2020 Australian Open Odds: Gauff +337 / Osaka -526

15-year-old Cori Gauff continues to impress. After Sorana Cirstea took the first set against her in Round 2, she won the next 2 sets. But Naomi is on fire. Osaka has dominated in the first couple of rounds. Naomi takes this.

Tennis Betting Pick: Naomi Osaka

Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Petra Kvitova

2020 Australian Open Odds: Kvitova -208 / Alexandrova +152

In the second round, Petra Kvitova beat Paula Badosa. It wasn’t easy. Petra won both sets 7-5. Alexandrova walked through Barbora Krejcikova 6-1, 6-3. Ekaterina can pull off the upset.</p.

Tennis Betting Pick: Ekaterina Alexandrova

Guido Pella vs Fabio Fognini

2020 Australian Open Odds: Fognini -117 / Pella-112

Gregoire Barrere pushed Guido Pella in the second round. Pella required 4 sets to get by Barrere. However, Fabio Fognini has played 14 sets in the first couple of rounds. Pella takes this.

Tennis Betting Pick: Guido Pella

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Milos Raonic

2020 Australian Open Odds: Raonic +212 / Tsitsipas -294

Stefanos Tsitsipas should be well-rested after a Round 2 walkover victory versus Philipp Kohlschreiber. Milos Raonic has shown he’s in top form, though. Milos has yet to lose a set at the Australian Open. At one time, he was a Top 10 tennis player in the men’s game. Raonic shocks Tisitsipas.

Tennis Betting Pick: Milos Raonic

Marin Cilic vs Roberto Bautista-Agut

2020 Australian Open Odds: Bautista-Agut -285 / Cilic +202

Like Raonic, Marin Cilic used to be a Top 10 men’s singles player. A difference exists in their Round 3 matches, though. While Raonic has dominated, Cilic worked hard to beat Benoit Paire in his second match. 9-seed Bautista-Agut moves to Round 4.

Tennis Betting Pick: Roberto Bautista-Agut

Diego Schwartzman vs Dusan Lajovic

2020 Australian Open Odds: Lajovic +187 / Schwartzman -256

Dusan Lajovic has played well. But he won’t get past Diego Schwartzman. The Argentinian player has shown he’s a dark horse to win this tournament. Neither Lloyd Harris nor Alejandro Davidovich Fokina took a set from Schwartzman. Back the chalk.

Tennis Betting Pick: Diego Schwartzman
