Yet again, no men’s tennis player will win all four Grand Slam events – the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open – in 2024 as that almost never happens.
But it still could be a historic year for Spain’s Carlos Alcarez as he has won the past two majors and is the +125 betting favorite on the tennis entering the hard-court U.S. Open. That starts on Aug. 26 from New York and the men’s final is Sept. 8.
Expert Prediction: We’ll take the value with Daniil Medvedev at +650 as he also reached last year’s final, losing to Djokovic. Novak’s days of winning Slams might be over at age 37. |
Carlos Alcaraz
The 21-year-old Alcaraz might be No. 3 in the ATP rankings behind Jannik Sinner and all-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, but there’s little doubt that Alcaraz is the best male player alive right now.
While he wasn’t able to win the Aussie Open, Alcaraz did win his first French Open title in early June with a 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 win over Alexander Zverev in the final – the match took 4 hours, 19 minutes.
In doing so, Alcaraz became the youngest man to win Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces as he also won Wimbledon in 2023 and the U.S. Open in 2022.
Alcaraz became only the seventh player overall to win a Slam event on all three surfaces, following in the footsteps of:
- Jimmy Connors
- Mats Wilander
- Andre Agassi
- Roger Federer
- Rafael NadalDjokovic
Fellow Spaniard Nadal had been the previous youngest, completing his trio at 22 years, 7 months when he won the 2009 Australian Open.
^Wimbledon Championships
Then in last Sunday’s final at Wimbledon, Alcaraz swept aside seven-time champion Djokovic in a stunning 6-2,6-2,7-6 (7-4) win – Novak was trying for his record eighth Wimbledon title and 25th Grand Slam all-time but was overmatched.
Alcaraz let slip three championship points from 5-4, 40/0 in the third set as Djokovic threatened to kick-start a comeback, but the 21-year-old held firm in the subsequent tie-break to complete an ultimately dominant win on Centre Court.
Alcaraz converted five of 14 break points he earned in a stunning performance on return.

Novak Djokovic
Djokovic admitted he was fighting to survive in the face of the whirlwind challenge from a man 16 years his junior.
A little over a month ago, the Serb underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee for a torn meniscus, an injury that ended his French Open campaign prematurely with a withdrawal before his quarterfinal against Casper Ruud.
So reaching the final at Wimbledon was impressive.
^Alcaraz Record
With the victory, Alcaraz became just the second man in the Open Era to win his first four Grand Slam finals (Roger Federer won his first seven).
He is also just the sixth man in the Open Era to win the Roland Garros-Wimbledon double in the same year, joining Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, Nadal, Federer and Djokovic on that elite list.
Among active male players, Alcaraz trails just Djokovic (24) and Nadal (22) for the most major singles titles, and he is now ahead of Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka (each with three).
^Olympic Tennis Paris 2024
Before heading to New York for the U.S. Open, Alcaraz will next play at the Olympic Games in Paris in singles and in doubles alongside Nadal and said he just wants to focus on the big picture.
^Jannik Sinner
Italy’s Sinner is +240 to win the U.S. Open for the first time. He won this year’s Australian Open for his first major title.
He rallied from two sets down to defeat Daniil Medvedev 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the final.
The fourth-seeded Sinner, who had lost only one set coming into the deciding match, appeared destined to lose in straight sets as the third-seeded Medvedev blasted his way to a quick two-set advantage.
But the Italian found his feet midway through the final and prevailed in a battle of will and endurance over 3 hours, 44 minutes.
Sinner became just the second Italian man to win a Grand Slam in the Open Era; Adriano Panatta won the French Open in 1976 while Nicola Pietrangeli won the French Open in 1959 and 1960.
Francesca Schiavone and Flavia Pennetta are Italy’s other Grand Slam champions, having won the women’s 2010 French Open and 2015 US Open, respectively.
Sinner lost in the French Open semis to Alcaraz and then in the Wimbledon quarters to Medvedev – although it appeared that Sinner was battling some health problems during the match.
The 22-year-old had his heart rate checked while sitting on the sideline during the third set before heading to the locker room.
He would return but lost in five. Medvedev had lost his five most recent matches against Sinner.
Djokovic is a four-time U.S. Open winner and +220 while Medvedev is +650. He beat Djokovic in straight sets in the 2021 final.
No other players are below +1600 to win America’s only tennis Grand Slam tournament.

2017 US Open ATP
With the start of the 2017 ATP US Open less than a week away, tennis betting enthusiasts across the globe need to know which ATP World Tour men’s players are offering the best value as far as their odds to win the fourth and final major of the year are concerned. Thankfully, that’s where I come in with an expert tennis betting odds analysis that will highlight the favorites, the top contenders and the players that will be nothing more than pretenders at this year’s ATP US Open. With that said, let’s get started.
Analyzing the ATP US Open Betting Odds and Winning Predictions
There will be five former men’s U.S. Open singles champions in this year’s field, including Roger Federer (2004-08), Rafael Nadal (2010, 2013), Andy Murray (2012), Marin Cilic (2014) and Juan Martin Del Potro (2009). Two-time men’s champion Novak Djokovic and 2016 winner Stan Wawrinka have both withdrawn from this year’s U.S. Open with Djokovic suffering from an elbow injury and Wawrinka shutting it down because of a season-ending knee injury. That leaves the incomparable Roger Federer as the prohibitive favorite and new World No.1 Rafael Nadal as the second pick in oddsmakers eyes to win the 2017 U.S. Open. The 2017 US Open will be played Monday, Aug. 28, through Sunday, Sept. 10, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. The US Open Men’s Singles Championship is presented by Mercedes-Benz.
Six Great Ways and Winning Tips for 2017 Tennis Betting
The ATP US Open Favorites
Roger Federer -110
Federer started off his year by winning the Australian Open before winning Masters 1000 events at Indian Wells and Miami, not to forget his record eighth Wimbledon title in July. While the all-time leader in men’s Grand Slam singles titles enters as the prohibitive favorite, he’ll need to remain fully healthy throughout the two-week tournament if he wants to hold off his younger counterparts on the fast hard courts in New York. Federer, who last won the U.S. Open in 2008, could win his his sixth US Open title, which would surpass Pete Sampras and Jimmy Connors for the most US Open men’s singles championships in the Open era. “After vacation and practice, it’s always a bit of a shock for the body,” Federer said after his loss to Zverev. “I felt all right all week. Had a bit of muscle pain, aches and pains here and there, just because it’s back on the match courts, on the hard courts.”
Rafael Nadal +180
The fifteen-time Grand Slam winner captured his 10th French Open singles title in May by defeating Stan Wawrinka in the final after reaching the finals of the Australian Open in January. Nadal won the 2010 and 2013 US Open singles titles by defeating Djokovic in both finals.
Marin Cilic +1100
Cilic just reached the final at Wimbledon before falling to Federer, but he also won the final major of the year back in 2009 – be beating Federer. He’s got a big serve and big forehand and moves well, so he’ll have a legitimate chance – if he doesn’t end up crying!
Alexander Zverev +1300
I love the young 20-year-old German and I believe he’s going to win multiple majors before he’s done – and it could start with this tournament. Zverev beat Federer two weeks ago at the Rogers Cup in Toronto and just looks like he’s poised to make his slam breakthrough sooner, rather than later.
The ATP US Open Contenders
Milos Raonic +1300 Dominic Thiem +1600 Juan Martin Del Potro +1600 Nick Krygios +2300 Grigor Dimitrov +2700 Analysis: World No. 10 Milos Raonic was a finalist at last year’s Wimbledon and has been touted as one of the game’s brightest young stars, but that was before he started repeatedly choking at the biggest tournaments there is. Now, I’m not very sure if the big-serving Canadian will ever win a major, seeing as how he’s not the best mover on the planet! World No. 7 Dominic Thiem has plenty of talent and is fearless against even the best players on the planet, although I’m thinking his one-handed backhand could be a vulnerability at this tournament for players who know how to get the ball up high on that side of his body. Juan Martin Del Potro should have at least five majors by now and I believe he would have if injuries hadn’t derailed him the last three to five years. Mostly to his balky racket-hand wrist. By now, everyone knows that young Australian Nick Krygios has the talent to beat everyone on the planet on any given day. Unfortunately, he also hasn’t been able to master the mental aspects of the game and may never do so. I believe the best value in this group is being offered by the man once known as ‘baby Federer, Grigor Dimitrov. The clearly hungry Hungarian, who moved up two spots to No. 9 in the singles ranking, is 34-13 on the year with three titles, including his Masters 1000 win in Cincinnati this past weekend.
The ATP US Open Pretenders
Andy Murray +375 Tomas Berdych +5500 Jo-Wilfred Tsonga +5500 John Isner +5500 Gael Monfils +6600 Kevin Anderson +8000 Sam Querrey +8000 Lucas Pouille +8000 David Goffin +8000 Jack Sock +8000 Analysis: No. 17 Jack Sock is the highest American in this year rank’s Open, but he’s certainly not winning because of a backhand that you can describe as mediocre, even on the best days. Eight other U.S. men are on this year’s field, including No. 19 John Isner, No. 20, Sam Querrey, No. 35 Steve Johnson, No. 44 Ryan Harrison, No. 61 Donald Young, No. 66 Jared Donaldson, No. 84 Frances Tiafoe, No. 85 Ernesto Escobedo and No. 102 Tennys Sandgren. However, you can also etch it in concrete that nos American male is going to win this year’s national title either. For me, it’s simple. If Roger Federer is fully healthy, he should reach the final at the very least. However, for me, the best value is coming from my expected winner, Sascha Zverev as a value-packed +1300 pick. Zverev is 2-2 in his career against Federer and has every single trait that it takes to be a future slam winner and World No. 1. ATP US Open Picks: Alexander Zverev, Roger Federer, Grigor Dimitrov, Marin Cilic
