Intrum Stockholm Cup (ATP)
- No. 6 Hyeon Chung vs. Taylor Fritz
22-year-old World No. 27 and sixth-seeded Hyeon Chung is 27-17 on the year with no titles while 20-year-old World No. 56 Taylor Fritz is a more modest 20-16 on the year, also without any titles. Chung owns a 1-0 career edge, having beaten Fritz6-4, 7-6 (5) on the hard surface at Atlanta earlier this year.
While Chung has the higher seed and better overall record this year, I’m going to urge you to back Taylor Fritz to get the win based on the recent play of these two players. While Hyeon Chung has struggled mightily in losing in the first round at Shanghai and in his first match at the Chengdu Open while winning just one match at the U.S. Open, Taylor Fritz won two matches in New yo9rk before reaching the semifinals at Chengdu and the Round of 32 at Shanghai.
Tennis Betting Pick: Taylor Fritz in Three Sets
- No. 8 Fernando Verdasco vs. Matthew Ebden
34-year-old Spaniard Fernando Verdasco, ranked 29th and 30-year-old Matthew Ebden, ranked 40th, have never met. Verdasco is 28-25 on the year while Ebden is a dead-even 19-19.
While Verdasco got knocked out of the China Open in his second match, he did reach the semifinals at Shenzen while winning two matches to reach the Round of 32 at the U.S. Open. Verdasco beat former slam winner Andy Murry at both events while also taking out Feliciano Lopez in New York.
Still, for me, I’m going with Matthew Ebden for the upset here after he reached the semis in Shanghai by beating Francis Tiafoe and Dominic Thiem along the way. Ebden is the younger player in this affair and he’s got to have some good confidence going right now.
Tennis Betting Pick: Matthew Ebden in Three Sets
Kremlin Cup
Tuesday, October 16
- Johanna Konta vs. Elise Mertens
27-year-old Johanna Konta is just 23-22 on the year with no titles while Elise Mertens has gone a robust 43-18 with three singles titles and four doubles titles. These two have split two head-to-head meetings with Konta coming out on top in Miami 6-2, 6-1 and Mertens extracting some revenge by picking up a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win in San Jose. Right now, Elise Mertens has surpassed Johanna Konta as the better player and the right pick to win this match, even though everyone knows that Konta looked like a sure-fire future grand slam winner in 2016 and 2017 before struggling this year.
BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open (WTA)
Tuesday, October 16
- Stefanie Voegele vs. Garbine Muguruza
28-year-old Stefanie Voegele has gone 29-23 on the year with no title while 25-year-old Garbine Muguruza has gone 27-17 with one title. These two have met twice with Muguruza winning both times, including their last match, a 6-3, 6-2 win in Morocco back in 2014. Keep it simple here tennis bettors. Garbine Muguruza is the younger, bigger and stronger player in this affair, not to mention he’s overpowered her opponent in this one twice. Take the sweet-swinging Spaniard to win in straight sets.
Tennis Betting Pick: Garbine Muguruza in Straight Sets
