French Open Semi-Final Top Half
There is a pair of quarter-final matches to take care of here before we get to the semi-finals, so let’s take a closer look at those two match-ups. Let’s start with #1 seed Rafael Nadal, who will be facing Diego Schwartzman in the quarter-finals. These two do have a bit of a history, as they have met 5 times in the past, with Nadal coming out on top in each of them. Perhaps more importantly, 3 of those victories have come on clay, the very surface they are playing on here at the French Open. It’s tough to see a scenario where Nadal does not move on to the semi-final. The other quarter-final still to be played is a good one, with Marin Cilic and Juan Martin Del Potro going head to head for the 12th time. As good as these two players are, it may be a little surprising to learn that their head to head meetings are very one-sided, with Del Potro winning 10 of those 12 matches. Another stat that may prove to be very important here is that they have met on clay 4 times in the past, with Cilic failing to pick up a single win. My money would be on Del Potro moving on in this one. If we do get a match-up between Nadal and del Potro in the Semi-final, we will get a much tighter match-up, with Nadal leading 9-5 in previous games against the Argentinian. Again, since this tournament is played on clay, it’s important that we look at how things have gone between these two on that surface in the past. Nadal is a perfect 3-0 on clay versus Del Potro, so let’s take him to go all the way to the final.French Open Semi-Final Bottom Half
The bottom half of the draw is already at the semi-final stage, and we have a bit of a surprise match-up. Unseeded Marco Cecchinato is in after taking out Novak Djokovic in 4-sets in the quarter-finals. He will face Dominic Thiem, who knocked off Alexander Zverev in a bit of a surprise win. These two have met twice before, splitting both those matches. It is Cecchinato who won the only meeting on clay, though, which suggests to me that he might be able to continue his unexpected French Open run. I’m going with him as my Tennis Betting pick to meet Nadal in the final.Last 10 Roland Garros Champions
