In his 3 full seasons as head coach of the Texas A&M Aggies, Jimbo Fisher has led his team to a pair of 9-win seasons, as well as an 8-win season. He would almost certainly have surpassed that number last year had the Aggies played a full slate of games, as the trio of games that ended up getting postponed were very much winnable. In the end, the Aggies went 8-1 in the regular season, with the lone loss coming to Alabama in Week 2.
Texas A&M went on to make it 9 wins on the season with a blowout win over North Carolina in the Orange Bowl. With that victory, they closed out the season with 8 straight wins, many of which were of the blowout variety. The Aggies Odds and Outlook for 2021
This season is going to be a real test for the Aggies, as they have some very talented players to replace. QB Kellen Mond, who had a stellar 4-year college career is gone, as is a large chunk of the offensive line. The good news is that star running back Isaiah Spiller is back for another season, which should take some pressure of whichever QB gets the starting job.
On the bright side of things, Jimbo Fisher has assembled an absolutely outstanding defense, which is perhaps surprising to some given that he is viewed as an offensive guru. The feeling is that the Aggies defensive unit might well take another step forward this season, which they might need to given all the holes that need to be filled on the offensive side of the football. The bookies seem inclined to believe that the Aggies will have another stellar year, as their 2021 win total is currently set at 9 ½.
I think we can expect this team to be very competitive again this season, but can they run down the Crimson Tide and take a run at the West Division and an SEC Championship Game? Getting out of the SEC is going to be tough, as both Alabama and Georgia look strong. Still, the Aggies are certainly with a look and are at nice odds of +1200 to win the conference.
