- When: Saturday, May 28
Joshua John +350 vs Mark McKeown -600
Joshua John versus Mark McKeown should be a good fight between two up and coming boxers. John is 4-0. McKeown is 6-0.
McKeown gets the benefit of the doubt because he’s won two of his fights via technical knockout. But John is undefeated and has shown an ability to pile up points. This should be closer than the odds indicate.
Boxing Pick: Joshua John
Mahmoud Charr -700 vs Nikola Milacic +400
32-4 with 18 knockout wins, there’s nothing fancy about Charr’s style. He wants to pummel you before you pummel him, which means Charr versus Milacic should be a highly entertaining bout.
The underdog in this has a 21-2 record. Milacic suffered a knockout loss in his last. But the bout was against 15-1 Ali Eren Demirezen. Milacic should have more success versus Charr than he did against Demirezen. The odds make the underdog more than playable.
Boxing Pick: Nikola Milacic
Jesus Alejandro Ramos -700 vs Luke Santamaria +550
There’s a reason Jesus Alejandro Ramos is such a massive favorite over Luke Santamaria. Ramos is 18-0 with 15 knockout or technical knockout wins.
Santamaria is 13-2-1 with 7 knockout or technical knockout wins. Before dumping on Santamaria, though, it’s important to note that he beat veteran Devon Alexander last year and then bested Abel Ramos in February.
Santamaria is the best boxer Ramos has faced. He is going to push the chalk and this and warrants a look to provide the upset win.
Boxing Pick: Luke Santamaria
Gary O’Sullivan +900 vs Erislandy Lara -2000
- WBA Middleweight Title
The 34-year-old Lara is an active boxing legend. Erislandy has built a 28-3-3 record with 16 TKO or KO wins. Lara should manage a trip to the boxing hall of fame once he retires.
On Saturday, Erislandy fights a very good boxer. Gary O’Sullivan has a terrific 31-4 record. O’Sullivan will put up a fight in this. Lara’s victory won’t be easy. But Gary is 37 now and suffered a TKO loss to Jaime Munguia in 2020 that he probably hasn’t recovered from. Lara is the pick.
Boxing Pick: Erislandy Lara
Rolando Romero +415 vs Gervonta Davis -825
- WBA Lightweight Title
Rolando “Rolly” Romero is 14-0 with 12 knockout wins. Romero has a lot of power. So he has a shot to upset Gervonta Davis.
The problem Romero will have in this bout, though, is his style sets him up for a knockout loss. Romero doesn’t move his feet all that well. At least, he doesn’t move his feet well enough for this level of boxing.
Davis isn’t just a one-knockout pugilist. Gervonta is a talented boxer who entices his opponents into making mistakes. Romero doesn’t have nearly enough experience to deal with a boxer on Davis’ level. Expect Gervonta to easily handle the upstart. This fight ends in a Davis knockout victory.
Boxing Pick: Gervonta Davis
