Top Boxing Bouts

  • When: Saturday, Aug. 28 – Sunday, Aug. 29

Saturday, Aug. 28th Fights

  • Ben Thomas +700 / Ezra Taylor -1400

This should be an interesting fight. Thomas is 2-5 with 4 of his losses happening via KO or TKO. Taylor won his first fight, beating Jevgenijs Andrejevs via technical knockout. Ezra is a big time favorite. But this is only his second fight and his first fight happened more than a year ago. Does that mean Thomas has a chance? Nope. Ben is twenty-nine, which means he’s decided to only lace on the gloves when he gets a call to make a few bucks. Taylor should knockout Thomas. So look for a round prop option.

Boxing Pick: Ezra Taylor

  • Ijaz Ahmed +270 / Quaise Khademi -300

This is a rematch of a bout that happened on Feb. 27 this year. Ahmed beat Khademi via a 10-round majority decision. So it’s interesting that Khademi shows up the chalk to win the rematch. Neither fighter has more of an edge over the other. Ahmed has won all 8 of his bouts via decision, though. That could be the reason oddsmakers and boxing handicappers are on Khademi. If the odds were reversed, Quaise would be the pick. But at +270, it’s tough to look past Ahmed.

Boxing Pick: Ijaz Ahmed

  • Anthony Cacace -450 / Leon Woodstock +325

Anthony Cacace is 18-1 with 7 knockout victories. Cacace’s lone loss happened in 2017 versus then undefeated Martin Ward. Leon Woodstock heads into this having lost 2-of-3. Both losses were versus strong opponents, Archie Sharp and Zelfa Barrett. Woodstock has a chance, but Cacace is on a roll. The favorite beat then 15-0 Sam Bowen in his last.

Boxing Pick: Anthony Cacace

  • Akeem Ennis Brown -150 / Sam Maxwell +120

Brown versus Maxwell projects as one of the most competitive boxing matches of the weekend. The only match that could be more competitive is Jake Paul versus Tyron Woodley. Brown, the favorite, is 14-0. Akeem has great boxing skills, but like so many UK fighters, he struggles to hurt his opponents. Brown has a single knockout or technical knockout victory. Sam Maxwell is 15-0 in 11 knockout wins. Maxwell uses his power to hand Brown his first loss.

Boxing Pick: Sam Maxwell

Sunday, Aug. 29 Bouts

  • Daniel Dubois -2000 / Joe Cusumano +900 – Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley Undercard

16-1 with 15 knockout victories, Dubois looked great in his last. The favorite in this blasted Bogdan Dinu with a stunning 2 round knockout victory. Joe Cusumano has power. 17 of Cusumano’s 19 victories have come via KO or TKO. None of Cusumano’s 3 losses have happened via technical knockout or knockout. Power punchers always have a shot. But Cusumano doesn’t move as well as Dubois. Not only that, Dubois has heavier hands. Look for a round or two to lay on Dubois before settling on the moneyline.

Boxing Pick: Daniel Dubois

  • Amanda Serrano -2000 / Yamileth Mercado +900 – Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley Undercard

Amanda Serrano is 40-1-1 with 30 knockout victories. Serrano’s last loss happened in 2012 when Frida Walberg did just enough to grab the unanimous decision victory. Amanda has won 3 straight via TKO or KO. Yamileth Mercado is 18-2 with 5 knockout wins. She hasn’t lost since 2018 and will enter the ring on a 6-match winning streak. But the champ is taller, has a longer reach, and is much faster. Serrano will win via knockout or technical knockout. Make sure to look for round options before backing Serrano on the moneyline.

Boxing Pick: Amanda Serrano

  • Anthony Taylor +600 / Tommy Fury -1200 – Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley Undercard

Tommy Fury’s record looks decent enough, 6-0 with 4 knockout wins. In Anthony Taylor, though, Fury may be facing the toughest opponent of his short career. Taylor is 0-1 after a single bout. The underdog is a former MMA fighter who sparred with Jake Paul to help him prepare for Tyron Woodley.

In most boxing matches, real bout experience supersedes sparring. But in this case, Fury has fought a guy who is 10-102-3, a dude who sports an 0-26-2 record, a 2-26 fighter, an 0-11 boxer, an 0-9 pugilist, and Jordan Grant who was 2-0 whom Fury beat him via decision in a 4-rounds. Taylor’s sparring sessions with Jake were tougher fights than who Fury has faced. At the odds, the underdog is an overlay.

Boxing Pick: Anthony Taylor
