The United Rugby Championship has just crowned their champion with the Stormers edging out the Bulls last Saturday while Leicester also had a tough fought 15-12 win over Saracens to win the Premiership. With Major League Rugby in North America getting set to determine their winner this weekend all eyes are shifting towards the NRL as well as the World Cup in September.
The NRL is in the midst of their bye this week so it’s the Super League on full display along with the MLR Championship. Let’s see how the weekend plays out so you can get all set to bet against the Rugby Odds.
Looking Ahead to This Weekend’s Key Rugby Fixtures
Warrington Wolves (-2.5) vs Hull FC, Super League Friday 3:00 PM ET
Warrington finds themselves favored on Friday despite being in the midst of a five game losing streak. Hull FC hasn’t been much better at just 1-3 over their last four, but they still have much more to play for currently in fifth place in the Betfred Super League. Hull FC topped Warrington 18-16 in their earlier meeting back in April.
Salford Red Devils (-3.5) vs Wakefield Trinity, Super League Sunday 10:00 AM ET
Neither of these teams are contending this year, but that doesn’t mean Sunday’s contest can’t be an entertaining one between two of the three worst teams in the Super League. Wakefield has posted two of their five wins on the season over the past two weekends, snapping a seven game losing streak that dated back to early April.
Castleford Tigers vs Catalans Dragons (-1.5) Super League Sunday 10:30 AM ET
Can Catalans pick up the road win to keep the pace with St. Helens atop the Super League table? The Dragons are currently 11-4, trailing 13-2 St. Helen’s but with plenty of rugby left to play this season.
Catalans has won the last five meetings between these two teams, usually pretty easy like in the 44-12 victory on April 25th of this season. Castleford has split their last six games overall but aren’t as big of underdogs as you’d think in this matchup.
Seattle Seawolves at Rugby New York (-161), Major League Rugby Final, Sunday 12:00 PM ET
The MLR Finals get underway on national television broadcast on the Fox Network. Rugby New York earned the chance to host this game after their 24-16 upset over the New England Freejacks in a rivalry that is starting to emulate Yankees vs. Red Sox. New York handed the Freejacks their only two home losses this season.
The Seattle Seawolves turned things around this season, but at 9-7 it looked like they were going to fall just short of the postseason in fourth place. That was before L.A. and Austin both got disqualified though, and Seattle made the most of their opportunity by beating San Diego and Houston to return to the Final.
Seattle won the Final their first two years in existence in 2018 and 2019 before the 2020 season got cut short due to COVID. New York’s last two playoff appearances have been cut short by a combined three points, falling 24-22 in the semifinals in 2019 and 10-9 in last year’s conference final.
