MMA Betting Preview for UFC 280: Oliveira Vs Makhachev

- Where: Etihad Arena, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
- TV / Streaming: ESPN PPV
Katlyn Chookagian +175 vs Manon Fiorot -210
Boxer Katlyn Chookagian has a terrific 18-4 record. Chookagian is 2-2 in KO or TKO wins and is 1-0 in submission victories.
Katlyn will use her 2 inches height advantage and 3 inches reach advantage for sure in this bout. But there’s a reason 9-1 Manon Fiorot is the chalk.
Fiorot is a monster. She’s 6-0 in TKO and KO wins. Manon should neutralize Chookagian’s physical advantages enough for either a decision or stoppage victory.
UFC 280 Pick: Manon Fiorot
Beneil Dariush +160 vs Mateusz Gamrot -190
Favorite Mateusz Gamrot brings a 21-1 record into this bout. Not only does the chalk have a great record, but Mateusz is 7-0 via knockout and technical knockout wins and 5-0 via submission victories.
Mateusz’s lone loss was via split-decision. So even the loss was close.
Beneil Dariush will bring a 21-4-1 record into the Octagon. Dariush is 5-3 via TKO or KO wins and 8-1 via submission wins. Beneil hasn’t lost since 2018.
Gamrot should be the favorite but these two are closer than the odds indicate. Backing the underdog at overlay odds makes sense.
UFC 280 Pick: Beneil Dariush
Peter Yan -270 vs Sean O’Malley +220
O’Malley has physical advantages that give him an edge int his bout. Sean has a 5 inches reach advantage and is 4 inches taller.
But although O’Malley will be tough to beat, we shouldn’t look past the chalk. There’s a reason the MMA fighter with the physical advantages is such a big longshot.
Peter Yan has lost 2-of-5, yes, but both losses were to champ Aljamain Sterling. Yan has fought the much tougher opponents. The chalk gets it done.
UFC 280 Pick: Peter Yan
Aljamain Sterling -175 vs TJ Dillashaw +150
It’s impossible not to respect TJ Dillashaw. With that being written, the veteran UFC fighter is up against it versus champion Aljamain Sterling.
This is Dillashaw’s second fight since 2019. The underdog last fought on July 24, 2021 when he beat Corey Sandhagen via split-decision.
Even if Dillashaw had fought earlier this year, he’d be the underdog in this because Sterling is 21-3 and 8-0 via submission victories. Aljamain defends his title.
UFC 280 Pick: Aljamain Sterling
Charles Oliveira +160 vs Islam Makhachev -190 | Lightweight Title Fight
There’s a reason challenger Islam Makhachev will enter the Octagon the chalk. Makhachev has a strong 22-1 record. Islam is 4-1 via knockout or technical knockout wins and 10-0 via submission victories.
Champion Charles Oliveira is 33-8. Oliveira has a 9-4 KO/TKO record and is 21-3 via submissions. Oliveira has fought in championship bouts in his last 3.
Makhachev can win this but the odds on the favorite make him unplayable. Oliveira offers overlay odds. So backing the champ is the way to go.
UFC 280 Pick: Charles Oliveira
