As we slide into the holiday season, we are about to see 2020 come to an end in the UFC. The Vegas 17 Fight Night coming this weekend will be the final event of what has been a very strange year. We can all only hope that next year is better and that we can once again start to get fans back in the building for all the upcoming fights. It may still be some time before that happens, but in the meantime, there is still a lot of news and rumors for fans to absorb. In this piece, we’ll cover what went down at UFC 256, while also touching on some other news so you can keep making your bets against our UFC odds.

2020 MMA Betting News & Rumors Update Dec. 14th Edition

You always worry about a fighter taking on another bout after just a few weeks off, and we found out just how devastating that can be this past weekend. Deivision Figueiredo had just 3 weeks between his last bout and the brilliant Flyweight battle against Brandon Moreno this past weekend. That was enough to put him in the hospital the night before UFC 256. The champ was allegedly experiencing severe stomach pain that came from cutting to weight twice in such a short period of time. He was able to deliver such a great performance in the draw that shows you just how good he really is.

It was a tough weekend for some of the bigger name fighters in the UFC. It looks as though Junior dos Santos and Ronaldo Souza may be looking at the end of their great careers, particularly Souza, who was finished early. At the age of 41, how much longer is he really going to keep taking hits. Another big loser was Tony Ferguson, who has now suffered back to back defeats. While you get the sense that he still has some gas in the tank, does he have the desire to get back to the top? Dana White suggested that Ferguson take some time off and come back stronger, which is not bad advice.

You can talk about Ferguson being past his prime, but the fact of the matter is that he was beaten by a very good fighter on Saturday. In fact, Charles Oliveira has himself in line for a title shot in the Lightweight division, but he may still have to wait. He wants the winner of the McGregor/Poirier fight, but that will likely depend on what Khabib does. If the champ vacated the belt and officially retires, then Oliveira should definitely get a crack, but if Khabib returns, he will almost certainly face the winner of the McGregor fight.

With another quick win over the weekend, Kevin Holland made it 5 for 5 in 2020, but he wants to squeeze in one more fight before the end of the year. Holland announced that he would be ready to go against Khmazat Chimaev next weekend. Chimaev was supposed to be on next week’s card, but he saw his fight postponed. Would Dana White make this match on short notice? Let’s wait and see.
