Compared to the last few weeks, where it seemed as though there was a ton of news to report, this week in the world of MMA has been relatively quiet. That said, there are still some items to reports, including some cancellations of upcoming fights, as well as what we can expect to see in terms of upcoming bouts after the events of the weekend in Las Vegas. It is there where we shall begin, as there is a lot of chatter about how things might play out in the wake of Glover Teixeira’s win over Thiago Santos. With that being said, let’s have a look at the latest MMA rumors and news out there so you can wager against their UFC odds.
2020 MMA Betting News & Rumors Update Nov. 9th Edition
Let’s start out by talking about Santos, who is now on a 2-fight losing streak after getting beaten by Teixeira. With 16 months off after undergoing major knee surgery, this was always going to be a difficult fight for the Brazilian. The good news was that he looked fit and healthy, but the bad is that he takes another step backward with the loss. For now, it’s about beginning the climb back to the top, so his next opponent is crucial. There are some who believe that it could be Volkan Oezdemir that could be next up for Santos. That is a matchup that we would gladly welcome.
As soon as that fight ended, Glover Teixeira made it clear that he wants a title shot against Jan Blachowicz. It’s hard to argue that he does not deserve that shot, with Dana White tending to agree, but it is almost certainly going to be Israel Adesanya who gets first crack at the champion. Blachowicz tool to Twitter to respond to Teixeira, saying that he would gladly welcome a challenge from him if the proposed bout with Adesanya does not happen. This is something that we will be watching closely in the coming weeks.
One of the other highlights, if you can call it that, of UFC Fight Night Vegas 13 was the bout between Max Griffin and Ramiz Brahimaj. This was a violent, bloody affair that needs to come with some sort of warning for those of you who have not seen it yet. In the 3rd and final round, Griffin landed a vicious elbow shot that almost tore off Brahimaj’s ear, ending the fight right there and then. It looked gruesome, but Brhimaj took to social media to let everyone know that he was fine and ready to start fighting again as soon as he heals.
Looking ahead to UFC Vegas 14, we have news that may come as a disappointment for many fight fans. Originally meant to happen at UFC 254, the fight between Rafael dos Anjos and Islam Makhachev was initially cancelled after a positive COVIF test by dos Anjos. The fight was moved to this coming weekend at Vegas 14, but it has once again been cancelled. This time around, it was Makhachev who was forced to withdraw, although the reason for dropping out has yet to be disclosed. Watch the UFC headlines this week to see who will be picked as a late replacement.
