UFC 229 Odds & Picks

  • When: Saturday, October 6th, 2018.
  • Where: T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada
  • TV: PPV
  • Live Stream: UFC Fight Pass

UFC 229 – Strawweight Bout

  • Michelle Waterson +110
  • Felice Herrig -130
32-year-old Michelle ‘The Karate Hottie’ Waterson stands 5’3” and has a 62-inch reach. The Colorado native beat Cortney Casey via split decision in April to snap a two-fight losing streak.

34-year-old Felice Herrig (14-7) stands 5’4” and has a 65-inch reach. The New York native will be looking to shake off a split decision loss against Karolina Kowalkiewicz that she suffered in April. I love the value that the more experienced Waterson is offering here and I believe it really won’t be an upset if she wins.

UFC 229 – Heavyweight Bout

  • Derrick Lewis +140
  • Alexander Volkov -170
33-year-old Derrick Lewis (20-5, 1 NC) stands 6’3” with a 79-inch reach. The New Orleans native has won two straight and picked up an absolutely huge win by stopping blossoming star Frank Ngannou via unanimous decision at UFC 226 in July.

29-year-old Russian Alexander Volkov (30-6) stands 6’7” with a 81-inch reach. he’s won six straight fights and is unbeaten in four fights since joining the UFC in November of 2016. Volkov stopped veteran Fabricio Werdum via a stunning fourth round KO (punches) that earned him the Performance of the Night in London in March.

While Lewis stunned Frank Ngannou in his last bout, I can see why Alexander Volkov is the slight favorite here. He’s been absolutely fantastic recently and looks like he’s ready for a title shot in the very, very near future to me.

UFC 229 – Light Heavyweight Bout

  • Ovince Saint Preux +185
  • Dominick Reyes -225
35-year-old Ovince Saint Preux (23-11) stands 6’3” with an 80-inch reach. The native of Haiti picked up an impressive first round submission (straight armbar) win over Tyson Pedro in June to bounce back from his first round submission loss against Ilir Latifi in February.

28-year-old Dominick Reyes (9-0) stands 6’4” with a 76-inch reach. The California native comes into this bout off a first round TKO (punches) win over Jared Cannonier in May. he’s finished off six straight opponents inside the distance via KO or submission.

Mmm…I’m thinking Dominick Reyes is close to a lock here, seeing as how he’s younger and most definitely, hungrier. Ovince Saint Preux has a huge edge in experience, but that’s the only edge he has and I don’t see it helping him stop the explosive Reyes.

UFC 229 – Lightweight Bout

  • Anthony Pettis +290
  • Tony Ferguson -360
31-year-old Anthony Pettis (21-7) stands 5’10” and has a 72.5-inch reach. The Milwaukee native stopped Michael Chiesa in the second round at UFC 226 in July via triangle armbar submission to bounce back from his third round submission loss to Dustin Poirier in November. Pettis has lost five of his last seven fights even though each defeat came against a high quality opponent.

34-year-old Tony Ferguson (23-3) stands 5’11” with a 76.5-inch reach. The California native has been on fire in winning 10 straight bouts, including the interim lightweight title in his third round submission (triangle choke) win over Kevin Lee in October of 2017. While Ferguson was stripped of the title because of an injury, he looks like a virtual lock to win here even though I will say that the talented but wildly inconsistent Anthony Pettis is always difficult to predict.

UFC 229 – Lightweight Championship

  • Conor McGregor +135
  • Khabib Nurmagomedov -165
30-year-old Conor McGregor (21-3) stands 5’9” with a 74-inch reach. The native of Ireland hasn’t fought in the Octagon since beating Eddie Alvarez…. Click here to read more on Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov
