UFC Fight Island Betting Strategies

UFC Fight Island

  • When: July 11 – July 18
  • Where: Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

UFC 251: Usman vs. Burns

  • When: Saturday, July 11

UFC 251 Betting Strategies

Build wagers around the main event – Usman versus Masvidal

Jorge Masvidal is an excellent fighter. But the betting trend implies Usman becomes a close to -350 favorite before these two step into the Octagon.

When it comes to UFC 251, build parlay bets around Kamaru Usman. Masvidal will have had 7 days to prepare for one of the most feared champions at UFC.

Also, the main card looks chalky, which means create parlay wagers around Kamaru instead of betting all on him to beat Masvidal.

Look for value in UFC 251 prelims

Where can MMA handicappers find value? UFC 251 prelims. Only Max Holloway looks capable of winning as a dog on the main card.

Jiri Prochazka, Zaleski Dos Santos, Roman Bogatov, and Zhalgas Zhamagulov all have a shot to upset their favored opponents at overlay odds.

Don’t go against a UFC 251 main card favorite unless you feel really good about it

We already mentioned the main card looks chalky. How chalky? Amanda Ribas appears to be a lock. So does Petr Yan over the great Jose Aldo. We discussed Jorge Masvidal’s chances.

Rose Namajunas and Alexandre Volkanovski could lose. But after Rose and Alexandre, favorites look solid. So, be sure if you go against a UFC 251 main card favorite.

UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs. Ige

  • When: Wednesday, July 15

Kattar vs. Ige Betting Strategies

The dogs could have their day on the Kattar vs. Ige main card

In a contrast to UFC 251, the main card at UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs. Ige sets up for underdogs.

Abdul Razak Al Hassan looks like a lock. But after Al Hassan, the main card appears wide-open. Frankie Edgar, Carla Esparza, Chris Fishgold, and Dan Ige all have a shot to upset their favored rivals.

Absolutely do your own handicapping. But from where we’re standing, the dogs may have their day at UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs. Ige.

UFC Fight Night: Figueiredo vs. Benavidez 2

  • When: Saturday, July 18

Figueiredo vs. Benavidez 2 Betting Strategies

Devieson Figueiredo may offer overlay odds to beat Joseph Benavidez

As of July 7, Devieson Figueiredo is a -225 favorite to beat Joseph Benavidez in their rematch on July 18. Our prediction? Figueiredo’s odds drop dramatically.

Right now, Devieson is an overlay at -225. Benavidez has an issue that his camp won’t easily correct. Joseph throws punches over his front foot.

That’s a huge no-no in boxing. MMA striking has it’s roots in boxing and Muay Thai. If you punch while stepping over your feet in either, your opponent will counter you.

Devieson figured that out during the first fight. So, unless Joseph has corrected that issue, expect a similar outcome in a couple of Saturdays.

Use your best judgement before backing a low-priced favorite

UFC handicappers aren’t familiar with many of the fighters on the Figueiredo vs. Benavidez 2 undercard. Don’t accept low odds unless you’re sure the favorite will win.

Unfamiliarity often leads to mixed-martial arts bettors overplaying favorites. Underdogs can offer much better odds than they normally would.
