The UFC returns on Saturday night, August 22, for another Fight Night at the Las Vegas Apex, and with a main card that looks as though it might deliver some great fights. The headliner bout of the night sees Pedro Munhoz and Frankie Edgar go head to head, but there are also 4 other fights on the main car that look fantastic. You may be hard pressed to select the fight of the night ahead of this one, but we are going to try and break things down to see if we can deliver some winners. With that in mind let’s take a closer look at the 5 fights set to go on the main card, along with their MMA odds.
MMA Munhoz Vs Edgar Betting Preview – UFC Fight Night
Daniel Rodriguez (-195) Vs Takashi Sato (+160)
The main card begins with a welterweight bout that really does have the potential to be the fight of the night. Both of these men have proven that they have some serious stopping power, so it might not be that surprising to see this one fail to go the distance. Rodriguez, who has posted a 12-1 career mark, comes into this bout on an 8-fight winning streak, but he is not going to have it all against his way against Sato, who has nabbed 69% of his 16 wins via KO. Tough call here, but I am taking Rodriguez.
Mariya Agapova (-1420) Vs Shana Dobson (+860)
Some people come into the UFC and automatically look the part, while others struggle to remain part of the picture. We have a pair of flyweight fighters at either end of that scale. Agapova is an up and comer in the division, coming into this bout with a 9-1 record, while Dobson, who is 3-4, may well be back out of the UFC picture with a loss here. It is tough to see this going any other way than a first round KO for Agapova.
Marcin Prachnio (+185) Vs Mike Rodriguez (-225)
What makes this light heavyweight bout so interesting is that it may well prove to be the end of the UFC road for whomever comes out on the losing end. Neither men have made much of an impact in their time under the UFC banner, with both coming into this one on 2-fight losing skids. There is likely to be a sense of desperation for both men in this one, which could make for a great fight. Prachnio is coming off back to back opening round KO losses, which has me leaning towards Rodriguez for the KO win.
Ovince St. Preux (-105) Vs Alonzo Menifield (-125)
This looks to be a fantastic pairing in the light heavyweight division, with St. Preux stepping back down after a poor performance at heavyweight. Overall, St. Preux has a 24-14 record in his career, with close to half of his wins coming via KO. Alonzo Menifield is still a relative newcomer and is at 9-1 after taking his first career lost last time out. Menified packs a ton of power and has won 89% of his fights by KO. I like him to get the big win here.
Pedro Munhoz (-270) Vs Frankie Edgar (+210)
This is an interesting fight between a pair of UFC veterans, but it’s also one that is a little tough to handicap. The reason for that is that Edgar is competing at bantamweight for the first time in his career, where he is 22-8-1. He is a great fighter, but the reality is that Munhoz is proven at this weight, putting together a career mark of 18-4. I’ll be taking Munhoz on my parlay ticket and adding a couple of others to try and up my winnings.
I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
