We’re now more than halfway through the CFL season, and there are three games on tap this week.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Calgary Stampeders, and Edmonton Elks are all on bye weeks. Winnipeg is 6-1 and currently holds the best record in the entire league after another dominating win over the Elks last week. This is all despite Bombers QB Zach Collaros throwing three interceptions in that game.
With all that said, let’s focus on the six teams that are scheduled to clash in Week 8. Here are my CFL Betting picks for Week 8 of the 2021 CFL season.
2021 CFL Week 8 Betting Preview
Wednesday, September 22: Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Ottawa RedBlacks
The Ticats handled the Stampeders with ease last week, and will now face an Ottawa team that has only one win on their record thus far. The RedBlacks offense is the worst in the CFL, and will now turn to former NFL QB Devlin Hodges in this one.
As we’ve seen with former NFL players making the transition to four down football, there will be growing pains. Take the Ticats defense to have their way with Hodges and company on Wednesday.
The Pick: Hamilton 28 – Ottawa 6
Friday, September 24: Montreal Alouettes at Toronto Argonauts
Vernon Adams was a disaster last weekend, throwing two interceptions in a loss to the Lions. What makes matters worse is that number could have easily been four or five, as Adams continues to struggle with making bad reads.
Now the Alouettes quarterback faces a feisty Argos defense that should have no problem causing Adams to turnover the ball once more. Nick Arbuckle hasn’t been anything special so far in 2021 as Toronto’s starting QB and I actually think McLeod-Bethel Thompson is the better option. Luckily for Ryan Dinwiddie’s team, the Argos defense alone should win this game and give Toronto great field position all night long.
Take Toronto by double digits on Friday.
The Pick: Toronto 24 – Montreal 13
Friday, September 24: Saskatchewan Roughriders at BC Lions
The BC Lions are on an absolute roll right now, winners of their last four games. Mike Reilly is back to throwing for over 300 yards a game, and Lucky Whitehead has been a dramatic difference maker for the Leos offense, as the former Dallas Cowboy has gone off in his last two games. The Lions’ defense has also been flying under the radar, and has shut down Ottawa and Montreal in back to back weeks.
Anytime the Riders travel to Vancouver, there will be a handful of green in the stands to support Saskatchewan. BC hasn’t had a great home field advantage for years now, but they are the hotter team and I’ll ake Reilly over Cody Fajardo any day of the week.
This game means a lot for both teams, as the winner will sit in second place in the West Division after Week 8. That would give either the Lions or Riders a first round bye if the playoffs started immediately after. Take BC to win by a late field goal.
The Pick: BC Lions 33 – Saskatchewan 30
