Winning Week in the WNBA: Analyzing Odds for Top Games & Picks

We have reached the midway point of the WNBA regular season, and we are seeing a very definite split in the standings.

There are basically 3 teams battling it out for the #1 seed right now, while spots 4 through 6 also look to be set in stone.

My Analysis

Below those 6 teams, we have a perfect battle going on for the 2 remaining playoff spots.

It is going to be interesting to see if the current standings hold in the second half, or if some team in the lower half of the standings can make a push and force their way into one of the higher seeds.

We will be keeping an eye on how things play out, but for now, let’s take a look at the top betting games we like this week + the latest odds provided by MyBookie Sportsbook.

Connecticut Sun at Phoenix Mercury

Monday, July 1, 2024, 10:00 PM | This is the second meeting between these teams this season, and Phoenix will be hoping that this one is a little more competitive.

The Sun won that one by a score of 70-47, but that one did take place in their own building. Going on the road should not be a huge problem for them, though, as they are 6-2 away from this season.

The Mercury are 9-9 this season, but it has been their play on the road that has killed them to this point.

Home games are a different matter, as the Mercury have been good on their home court, going 7-3.

Minnesota Lynx at New York Liberty

Tuesday, July 2, 2024, 7:00 PM | As we mentioned at the top of this piece, there are 3 teams at the top that are pulling away from the rest.

Minnesota and New York represent 2 of those 3 teams. It is New York that leads the way right now, leading the other 2 by a game and a half.

The Liberty are on a hot run of form right now, winning 4 in a row and 9 of their last 10.

The Lynx will be looking to close the gap and will be hoping for a repeat of their earlier meeting with the Liberty, which they won 84-67. The Liberty should be a good deal more competitive at home, where they are 9-1.

Connecticut Sun at Minnesota Lynx

Thursday, July 4, 2024, 8:00 PM, PRIME VIDEO | I usually like to try and cover as many teams as possible in the preview for the week, but it is impossible to ignore this game, as it is once again two of the top teams in the league going head-to-head.

We can only hope that this one is as exciting as the previous meetings between these two teams.

It was the Sun winning that one 83-82, but it took overtime for them to get that win. They are going to have a tough time matching that win on the road in Minnesota.

Chicago Sky at Seattle Storm

Friday, July 5, 2024, 10:00 PM, ION | Given that only 4 teams miss out on the playoffs in the WNBA, finishing below that cut line is nothing short of disastrous.

The Chicago Sky are below that line right now, albeit just a half game out of the final spot. They have a tough trip ahead of them on Friday, though, as they will be travelling to Seattle as they try to improve on their 3-4 road record.

Seattle is playing well right now, coming into this one on a 3-game win streak, and with 7 wins in their last 10 games. They are 7-1 in their own building this season.

WNBA Best Games

With he second half of the 2019 WNBA regular season set to get underway on Tuesday night following this past weekend’s record-setting all-star affair, it’s time to take a look at the top WNBA picks on the board for the coming week of action. With Chicago Las Vegas and Washington all looking to play the role of road warriors, let’s find out where the best WNBA betting value lies in their respective matchups.

Top WNBA Betting Picks of the Week – July 29th

Chicago Sky (11-8) at Connecticut Sun (13-6)

  • When: Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 7:00 PM ET
  • Where: Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, CT

Analysis: Prior to the annual all-star break, Chicago was playing its best basketball of the season in winning four straight over New York, Dallas, Atlanta and Indiana. The Sky put 77 points or more on the board in each game including a season-high 99 against the Liberty on July 12.

Unfortunately for Chicago, Connecticut also hit the all-star break riding the wave of a four—game winning streak that included wins over Phoenix, Indiana, Atlanta and New York. The Sun limited all four opponents to 69 points or less during the span and that’s why I like the league-leading Sun to get it done in their first game heading into the second half of the regular season. Connecticut is a near-perfect 9-1 at home this season while Chicago has gone an uninspiring 3-5 on the road.

WNBA Betting Pick: Connecticut 78 Chicago 71

Las Vegas Aces (13-6) at Los Angeles Sparks (11-8)

  • When; Thursday, August 1, 2019 at 10:00 PM ET
  • Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA
  • TV: ESPN2

Analysis: Las Vegas went into the all-star break having won two straight and four of five, including a statement-making 79-62 spanking of injury-riddled league-champion Seattle in July 23. The Aces have held four of their last five opponents to 74 points or less while putting 79 or more on the board four times during the span. Los Angeles also won four of five just before the break including a convincing 78-66 smackdown of Atlanta on July 23. The Sparks have held three of their last five opponents to 71 points or less while putting 76 points or more on the board four times.

While I don’t think the Sparks are better than Las Vegas and the records suggest just that, I am going to back L.A. to get the hard-fought win on Thursday night simply because they’ve gone 5-2 on their home floor and Vegas is a more modest 5-4 on the road. Yes, I know Las Vegas is the statistically better team at both ends of the floor, but again, Los Angeles is playing at home and I’m expecting a top-notch effort out of the Sparks.

WNBA Betting Pick: LA 78 Las Vegas 76

Washington Mystics (12-6) at Seattle Storm (12-9)

  • When: Friday, August 2, 2019 at 10:00 PM ET
  • Where: Angel of the Winds Arena, Everett, WA
  • TV: NBATV

Analysis: Prior to the all-star break, Washington had won three straight games after getting superstar forward Elena Delle Donne back from a facial injury. The Mystics put up an impressive 93 points or more twice while limiting the opposition to 71 points or less on two occasions as Delle Donne scored an identical 28 points in two contests. Seattle had its four-game winning streak snapped in its humbling 79-62 road loss at Las Vegas on July 23, but the Storm scored 90 points or more twice over their last five games while holding the opposition to 69 points or less three times.

For this Friday night showdown, I’m going with Seattle and star forward Natasha Howard to take care of business against Elena Delle Donne and Washington mostly because the Storm are playing at home where they’ve gone 8-3 on the year. I know Washington has been highly impressive in recording a league-best 7-3 road mark so far this season, but the Storm are starting to get a bit healthier right now and they’re definitely going to want to make a statement in this contest.

WNBA Betting Pick: Seattle 78 Washington 77
