WNBA Finals Games: Will the Series Reach Game 5?

Prior to the start of every playoff series, we all like to make predictions as to how we think things will go.

In the early rounds, you tend to get mismatches that have a lot of betters taking a shot on the sweep.

My Analysis of the WNBA Finals

As things progress, though, the teams tend to become more evenly matched, which often means that we can expect a longer series.

There are, of course, always exceptions to the rule, but what can we expect for the remainder of the WNBA Finals?

We have the top 2 seeds from the regular season taking part in the Finals, and while there really wasn’t that much separating them in the regular season, it was the New York Liberty, who had the best regular season record, who came into the WNBA Finals as the clear favorite to win.

What many people pointed out prior to the start of this series was that it was the Minnesota Lynx who had the best of things in their regular season series with the Liberty, taking 2 of 3 in those games.

In a best-of-5 series, it can be argued that starting things out with a pair of games at home is a massive advantage, although only if the home team can take both games.

The New York Liberty immediately blew home court advantage with a 95-93 loss in Game 1.

It was a fantastic game that could have been a major blow to the #1 seed, but this team proved they have some grit, blowing out the Lynx in Game 2.

What Can We Expect from Game 3 Onwards?

The action will now shift to Minnesota for the next couple of games, with the Lynx now having an opportunity to close things out in their own building.

They are, though, going to need to block out the events of Game 2, where they were absolutely dominated by New York.

Getting in front of your own fans can help with that, and it also helps that the Lynx went 16-4 in their own building in the regular season.

That said, the Liberty were also very good on the road, posting a 16-4 record in the regular season.

I’m not going to make a prediction as to who I think will win Game 3 or Game 4, but what I will say is that I would not be surprised to see the next 2 games end in a split.

Even if New York is able to ride the momentum from their last win and take Game 3 to win back home court advantage, I think the Lynx will be able to dig down and win one of the next 2 games on home court.

You have to go back to 2019 to find the last time that the WNBA Finals went to a 5th and deciding game, but prior to the start of this one, I predicted that this series would go the distance, with the New York Liberty going on to win the whole thing.

I am not about to go back on that prediction now, especially after seeing what went down in the opening 2 games of this series.
