Between Tuesday and Sunday, there are 15 WNBA games, with each proving more crucial under a month before the close of the regular season. The common theme in the top games worth watching and betting on is simply in regard to the playoff race as it heats up.
There are intriguing matchups among the top teams, but there is also a cluster of six teams within two games of each other battling for three playoff spots over the course of the next four weeks before the regular season closes, and the top eight teams based on winning percentage are seeded in a bracket-style tournament, regardless of conference.
Without further ado, here’s a look at the top five games worth betting on this week. Let’s jump right into action so you can go ahead to make your bets against the WNBA Odds.
Top 2022 WNBA Games Worth Betting This Week (July 19th – 23rd)
New York Liberty at Connecticut Sun, Tuesday
A little Tuesday morning action as this game tips off at 11:30 a.m. ET between a Sun team that figures to be in sporting a 16-9 record. They should be favored by several possessions, though the Liberty (9-15) are 2-1 against the Sun this season. It could be the spark needed for a Liberty team that has ground to make up in the playoff race.
They are led by Sabrina Ionescu, who before the All-Star break became the first player to score 30 points in a triple-double in league history. The Sun, though, are a top three team on both ends of the court and have a frontcourt presence difficult to match up with.
Seattle Storm at Chicago Sky, Wednesday
This matchup between titans is a potential WNBA Finals preview and the best game of the week. The Storm (17-8) and Sky (19-6) are squarely in the field, barring a catastrophic collapse by either team. The Chicago Sky are the defending champions and lead the Eastern Conference, while the Storm have the league’s third-best record.
It will be the second to last time Sue Bird plays in Chicago, barring a playoff meeting. Alongside Breanna Stewart and Tina Charles, the Storm will look to upset a Sky team who is second offensively, fourth defensively, and the most balanced group in the league.
Atlanta Dream at Los Angeles Sparks, Thursday
The Dream (11-14) and Sparks (10-14) are in that grouping of teams fighting for three playoff spots. Atlanta is fifth defensively but the worst offensive team. The Dream also are very young and talented, with Rhyne Howard and Aari McDonald two of the blossoming stars.
Los Angeles isn’t particularly great on either end of the floor. They do have a talented frontcourt, with Nneka Ogwumike and Liz Cambage averaging a combined 31.6 points and 13.6 rebounds per game.
Seattle Storm at Phoenix Mercury, Friday
Two of the league’s great guards in, Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi, will match up for the final time in the regular season. Bird is wrapping up a 19-year career while Taurasi is in her 18th season, with each player spending their entire careers with Seattle and Phoenix, respectively.
That aside, the Mercury (11-16) are among playoff contenders and hoping to secure a spot. Those looking for a back-and-forth battle between Bird and Taurasi may come away disappointed. Breanna Stewart and Tina Charles will look to exploit the frontcourt issues that have hurt Phoenix all season.
Los Angeles Sparks at Las Vegas Aces, Saturday
Can the Sparks keep up? That’s the question for any team who opposes the Aces (18-7), who are the highest scoring team in the league at 91.3 points per contest.
The first two meetings were not competitive, but the Sparks lost by six in the previous meeting between the two.
Expect Aces stars Kelsey Plum, A’ja Wilson, and Jackie Young, particularly the two guards, to test a Los Angeles backcourt that has been inconsistent and has struggled all season.
