The Super Bowl is over, and the new champions have been crowned, which usually means that we have months to wait before we get to see football again. That is not going to be the case this year, though, as we are about to see the return of the XFL to primetime television. The brainchild of WWE owner Vince McMahon, the XFL exploded on the scene 20 years ago, but it flamed out quickly.
The new version of the league is going to be different, with new rules in place to help deliver an exciting brand of football that the XFL hopes will help fans stick around this time. All the new rules and scoring can be found on the main XFL website, but for the purposes of this piece, we are going to look at the first 4 games of the season, all of which will go this weekend for XFL Week 1. Be sure to check out the latest XFL odds before placing your wagers.
XFL Week 1 2020 Odds, Preview & Predictions
Seattle Dragons at DC Defenders
The opening game of the 10-week XFL season will be held at Audi Field in the nation’s capital on Saturday at 2 PM EST, with the Seattle Dragons on the road to face the DC defenders. The Dragons are coached by Jim Zorn and feature a few players that you may be familiar with, most notably QB Brandon Silvers. There are a few known names on the DC squad coached by Pep Hamilton, with former Alabama QB Cardale Jones being the one that is most recognizable.
LA Wildcats at Houston Roughnecks
ABC will host the opening game of the season, while FOX will be in Houston on Saturday to televise the LA Wildcats going head to head with the Houston Roughnecks. The Wildcats are among the favorites to win the XFL Championship this season, but well are probably going to see the odds change as the season progresses and we get to know the teams. The Roughnecks will host this one at TDECU Stadium with June Jones in as head coach.
Tampa Bay Vipers at New York Guardians
The second day of the opening weekend in the XFL falls on Sunday, with the Tampa Bay Vipers heading to the Big Apple to face the New York Guardians. This has the potential to be a very good matchup, as the bookies have the Vipers and Guardians among the favorites to win it all. Tampa will be led by former Georgia QB Aaron Murray, while the New York Guardians coach and GM Kevin Gilbride will try to lead his team to a winning start at home in Week 1, with this game available on FOX.
St. Louis Battlehawks at Dallas Renegades
Sunday will give us some idea as to just hoe accurate the bookies were in their assessment of all 8 teams in the XFL, as the Dallas Renegades, who are in as the favorite to win it all, will start their season off at home against a St. Louis team who are coming into the season as one of the biggest underdogs. The biggest name in this game, which is on ESPN on Sunday, is RB Cameron Artis-Payne of the Renegades.
