XFL Betting Analysis for the Best Games to Wager On this Week 5

The XFL has come back after a three-year hiatus, with the first week of the relaunched league coming this weekend. We have yet to see any of the eight XFL rosters in action, with this weekend being the first glimpse we get of all of the teams. But that lack of experience with each roster could mean some value XFL betting opportunities as spring football returns for the 2023 XFL campaign.

Orlando Guardians vs. Houston Roughnecks

When: Saturday, February 18, 2023
Where: TDECU Stadium, Houston, TX

Time: 8:30 PM EST
TV: ESPN, FX, ESPN+

The first bet worth looking at going into the season-opening weekend in the XFL will take place in Houston. The Houston Roughnecks were the lone undefeated team in the XFL when the league was shut down during the COVID pandemic in 2020. While this Roughnecks roster is completely different from that one, they can still be expected to start this season with a win over the Orlando Guardians.

Quarterback play is going to be a huge question mark for most of the league early on this season. With Houston being coached by former NFL coach Wade Phillips, their defense should be able to take advantage of any early quarterback struggles. That will set them apart as teams get their feet wet in their first on-field action together.

Vegas Vipers vs. Arlington Renegades

When: Saturday, February 18, 2023
Where: Choctaw Stadium, Arlington, TX

Time: 3:00 PM EST
TV: ABC, ESPN+

Another Texas-based home team is worth backing to start the XFL season, as the Arlington Renegades should take care of business against the Vegas Vipers. While quarterback play is a concern for much of the league, it could be a legitimate strength for the Renegades from the start of this year. Kyle Sloter led a USFL team to the playoffs last year as one of the league’s best quarterbacks, and will be one of the best quarterbacks in the XFL as well.

On top of that, the Vipers are likely to give Brett Hundley a shot at quarterback, which went poorly for the NFL teams that tried it previously. A move down to the XFL could help Hundley get his feet back under him in professional football. But the Vipers’ quarterback situation looks very similar to that of the New York Guardians in 2020, where an inferior quarterback is starting over Luis Perez in the XFL.

St. Louis BattleHawks vs. San Antonio Brahmas

When: Sunday, February 19, 2023
Where: Alamodome, San Antonio, TX

Time: 3:00 PM EST
TV: ABC, ESPN+

Our final XFL betting look worth taking on for Week 1 also takes place in Texas, but goes against the Texas team this time around. The St. Louis BattleHawks have been listed as the favorite to win the XFL championship in the futures markets going into this season. They should get off to a good start against the San Antonio Brahmas, in the Brahmas’ first game in franchise history after replacing the LA Wildcats from the league’s 2020 list of franchises.

San Antonio has a real lack of pro experience in their quarterback room, with Jack Coan and Juwon Pass set to lead them from that position. Neither of them has played in the pros yet, and neither has performed all that well in big games in college either. Rolling with the league’s front-runner to start the season looks like a good move because of that fact.
