Tour de France is back for the 108th time this year. After the COVID-19 pandemic moved the renowned cycling race to late summer last year, the race returns to its usual place on the calendar for 2021.
The 2021 Tour de France will run from June 26 – July 18, starting in Brest, where the world’s best cyclist will begin their 3,383 kilometers (2,102 miles) route through France. The race will culminate with a sprint finish on the renowned Champs-Élysées.

Will the 2021 Tour de France Be a Rematch?
Cycling has produced some great comebacks throughout its history. However, there was none in recent history as memorable as Tadej Pogačar’s shocking comeback in last year’s Tour de France Stage 20 mountain time trial, when he beat his countryman Primož Roglič to overcome what seemed like an insurmountable deficit.
The Slovenian duo went toe to toe last year and were a clear cut above the field, so it makes sense to see them priced as the main favorites to repeat their success this summer.
The main question ahead of the 2021 Tour de France is whether it will be a Pogačar-Roglič rematch? Last year, Jumbo Visma fielded by far the most stacked team, and while Roglič was their star member, you can’t look past Tom Dumoulin, Sepp Kuss, Wout van Aert, and George Bennet, who dominated most of the race.
Many will remember Pogačar’s incredible run, but understanding how important is a well-rounded and strong team is the key to betting on cycling. That alone could make Roglič a more appealing bet than Pogačar since the latter surely won’t be able to go under the radar this year.
Can Any Of The Outsiders Impress?
Tour de France is no stranger to upset victories, so it makes sense to look at a few longshot picks. Pogačar wasn’t exactly a longshot bet last year, but he surely wasn’t one of the main betting favorites either, and that is to prove a point that outsiders can indeed win.
Richie Porte (+2800) stands out as a solid outsider pick with generous odds. The 36-year-old has been showing great form this season, and while he has achieved many great results, there is one that no one should look past.
Porte won the 2021 Criterium du Dauphine at the start of the month, and while that might not seem like a big deal, winning the said race is usually a good indication of success heading into the Tour de France. It should not come off as a surprise that Porte’s victory at that race saw his betting odds drop and has since passed Julian Alaphilippe on the betting market.
When we talk about Porte, you must also consider that he finished third in the Tour de France last year, 11th in 2019, and fifth in 2016. In 2018, Porte did not finish the race, albeit he won the Stage 3 trial.
The only concern with Porte is whether he can stay healthy throughout the race. If he manages to do that, he is definitely the guy to watch outside of the top favorites.
