Is Georgia a True Contender to Repeat Title this NCAAF Season? | MyBookie’s Preview on Michigan’s Race for the Title

2024 NCAA Division I FBS football season | 155th season of college football in the United States
August 24, 2024 – December 14, 2024

2024 Georgia Season

The most dominant college football program in the past four seasons heads into 2024-2025 as the favorite to win the College Football Playoff.

Even an expanded CFP to 12-teams, couldn’t keep the Georgia Bulldogs from the National Championship favorite moniker.

The Dawgs will enter the season a massive +320 favorite to win the title.

Ohio State is second choice at +425, which tells us how much faith oddsmakers and so far college football handicappers have in the Bulldogs.

Is Georgia a true contender to win the championship?

Check out college football odds and the info you require to determine if UGA is worth backing to score another NCAAF trophy.

NCAA College Football National Championship Odds

  • Georgia +320
  • Ohio State +425
  • Texas +750
  • Oregon +850
  • Alabama +1400
  • Ole Miss +1600
  • LSU +1800
  • Michigan +2500
  • Florida State +2500
  • Notre Dame +2500

Why is Georgia a +320 Odds Choice to Win the National Championship?

Kirby Smart always fields a strong offense and defense.

This season not only does Georgia have talent, but it has experience.

The Dawgs return five seniors, including star quarterback and Heisman Trophy favorite Carson Beck, on offense.

Another five players on offense, including transfer running back Travis Etienne, are juniors.

The only non-junior or senior starter is sophomore left tackle Ernest Greene III.

All of the talent, especially upfront on the offensive line, means Georgia should boast the most electric offense in the SEC, even more electric than Texas’s or Alabama’s.

Upperclassmen also dominate Georgia’s defense. Five seniors and four juniors start on UGA’s D.

Two sophomores also play, which means that counting Georgia’s and defense, only three non-senior or junior players will start.

In the SEC, where talent and experience are requirements, Georgia has both.

Georgia Projected Starters – Offense

  • WR Rara Thomas
  • WR Dylan Bell
  • WR Dominic Lovett
  • LT Earnest Greene III
  • LG Dylan Fairchild
  • OC Jared Wilson
  • RG Tate Ratledge
  • RT Xavier Truss
  • TE Oscar Delp
  • QB Carson Beck
  • Trevor Etienne

Why Georgia is a Good Bet to Win the National Championship

The first reason is because of the 12-team expanded College Football Playoff. Georgia ended ranked fifth in the nation.

The Bulldogs missed out on making it to the 4-Team CFP after losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship.

UGA had gone through the entire season ranked first in the country.

So losing to the rival Crimson Tide would have been forgiven in a 12-team CFP.

But since the format was 4 teams, the selection committee kept Georgia out of the College Football Playoff.

The second reason to like Georgia is because of their upper classmen talent on both sides of the ball. Beck showed Heisman Trophy like abilities last season.

Any improvement and he’ll lead one of the best offenses, if not the best, in the nation.

As always, Smart will field one of the country’s top defenses.

Playmakers abound on both sides of the ball and that will help Georgia.

The third reason to like the Dawgs to win it all in the next NCAAF season.

Georgia will be battle tested when they go to the College Football Playoff.

The Bulldogs take on Clemson and travel to both Alabama and Texas this season.

There is also a matchup against tough Tennessee late in the season.

Then there’s the SEC Championship where Georgia is likely to face either Texas or Alabama in a rematch.

Why Georgia Isn’t a Good Bet to Win the National Championship

The schedule is difficult. So there’s a chance, a small chance but still a chance, that Georgia loses to Texas, Alabama, Clemson, and Tennessee.

If that happens, the Bulldogs won’t grab a bid to the College Football Playoff, which means their chances of a national title will go up in smoke.

There is also the chance that a key player, Beck being the most important, suffers an injury.

Again, it likely won’t happen, but it could and if it does, the Bulldogs’ chances of a National Championship will become nonexistent.

Finally, the odds are much lower than on other contenders. So if you back the Bulldogs,  you are taking them at underlaid odds.

Georgia Analysis: Should We back the Bulldogs to Win the National Championship?

Even though the odds are low, no team in college football, not Texas, not Alabama, not Ohio State, boasts the deep level of talent that Georgia possesses.

Not only is the talent pool deep, but the star players have been together for a while.

It’s rare to see a football program as adept at winning titles as the Georgia Bulldogs send a senior quarterback like Carson Beck to the field.

Beck could have gone to the NFL but opted to stay another year, much like Quinn Ewers at Texas, because he believes he can win a National Championship.

The Georgia Bulldogs are loaded.

The schedule isn’t easy, but Smart wants a tough schedule to toughen up his players.

If everything goes as planned, Georgia will beat Alabama and Texas on the road and handle Clemson, Tennessee, and every other team along their way to an undefeated season and National Championship.

Backing Georgia to win the title makes all the sense in the world.

NCAA Football 2022 Georgia Betting Analysis: Are they A Good Pick and Contenders?

Previous Betting News

Last season, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs won the National Championship. Winning the title means pressure is on this season to continue the excellence. But the Dawgs lost eight players from the title winning defense. Is UGA a good betting pick? Are the Dawgs a true contender to repeat as national titlists? Check out a 2022 Georgia Bulldogs analysis so you can plan your bets against their College Football Odds.

Are the Georgia Bulldogs a Good Betting Pick and a True Contender this Season?

2022-23 NCAAF College Football Season

When: August 27, 2022 – Dec. 10, 2022

Why the Georgia Bulldogs are a good betting pick and true contender

Quarterback Stetson Bennett returns for his seventh, you read that right, seventh season playing college ball. Bennett played a year at Jones Community College in Mississippi before starting his career at Georgia.

Bennett has seen it all. So he should have an excellent season. Not only that, but he gets to hand the ball off to talented running backs Kenny McIntosh and Kendall Milton.

The offensive line should be fantastic. Georgia returns three starters. New left tackle Broderick Jones started four games last season and has seen significant action. He’ll be more than fine.

Why the Georgia Bulldogs aren’t a good betting pick and true contender

The defense has talent, but the talent is young and inexperienced. We must especially question how good the defensive line is.

The Bulldogs play a soft regular season schedule, but that could work against Georgia this season. If the Dawgs lose to any of their opponents, if Florida upsets UGA as an example, the title hopes will go out the window.

Not only that, but Alabama looks much better than Georgia on paper and UGA, even if they win the SEC East, is likely to face Bama in the SEC Championship.

Could a 1-loss Ohio State, a 1-loss USC, or a 1-loss Texas A&M leapfrog Georgia even if UGA’s loss is in the SEC title contest? Yep. It could happen this season for sure.

Final Analysis: Are the Georgia Bulldogs a good betting pick and true contender?

The defensive line could turn into a top unit because Jalen Carter returns. Kelee Ringo returns as well. Ringo is one of the best cornerbacks in the nation.

But we must question the linebacking unit and although Stetson Bennett played great in the National Championship, he didn’t have an awesome regular season.

Almost as important is the fact the Dawgs must play a loaded Mississippi State and improved Kentucky Wildcats team on the road. Home games versus Florida and Tennessee aren’t locks.

Also, Georgia opens the season versus former defensive coordinator Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks. Lanning will put together a strategy to get to Bennett.

So although the Bulldogs look like a team that can win the title, they’re not a great bet. Alabama is the best team in the nation and the best in the SEC. USC can go undefeated. So can Ohio State and if everything comes together for Texas A&M, the Aggies could enter the postseason with a single loss, to top ranked Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

There’s a lot going against Georgia this season. The answer to the question is no. UGA isn’t a good betting pick and a true contender to win the College Football National Championship.
