It’s a massive weekend in the world of the Xfinity Series, as we finally get to the opening round of the playoffs.
Yes, the Round of 12 begins this weekend in Kansas with the running of the Kansas Lottery 300, with the defending champion serving a notice of intent last week with a win in the final regular season race of the year.

My NASCAR Xfinity Series Kansas Lottery 300 Analysis
As good as it is to end the regular season with a win, this will feel like a fresh start for each of the 12 drivers who are alive and still in with a shot at the Xfinity Series championship.
There are some familiar names in the playoff group, but only one driver can win it all. Who will get out to a fast start this weekend in Kansas?
Let’s take a closer look at the favorites.

Justin Allgaier +330
While Allgaier is heading into the playoffs as one of the favorites to win it all, it is worth noting that while he has had an amazing career in the Xfinity Series, a championship has evaded him to this point.
He will almost certainly be in the mix again this time around, as he finished the regular season at the top of the driver standings.
On the downside, though, he is coming into the playoffs on a run of 3 straight races finishing outside the top 10.
Allgaier has landed in the top 10 in 2 of the last 3 runs in Kansas, so while I’m not sure about taking him to win, I think a top 5 bet might be worth the risk.
^Cole Custer +400
As we mentioned at the top of this piece, Custer ended the regular season with a win, making it clear that he is not about to give up his title without a fight.
While that was just his 2nd win of the season, let’s not forget that Custer won it all last season by picking up a total of 3 wins across the entire season, so he is very much on track when you take that into account.
Custer had a brutal run in Kansas last season, but his win last weekend suggests that we can expect better this time around.
^Austin Hill +990
We have spoken before about Hill’s habit of getting out to a fast start every season, only to fall off and fail to go all the way.
Over the last 2 seasons, he has made it to the Round of 8 but has been unable to move into the Championship Round.
With a win in the latter stages of the season this year, he might well be looking to prove that he has what it takes to go all the way.
Last year, Hill finished in the top 5 in this race, and I would be willing to wager that he might do better this time around.
^Chandler Smith +600
Last season was a breakout year for Smith, as he made it all the way to the Championship Round before having to settle for 3rd overall.
He closed out the regular season sitting in 4th in the driver standings, so there is a very good chance that he could be looking at another deep run this time around.
During his playoff run in 2023, Smith finished 6th in Kansas, so I might be willing to play him to finish in the top 3 this time around.

2023 Kansas Lottery 300
It’s do or die time for a number of drivers in the Xfinity Series, as this weekend’s race at the Kansas Speedway is the last one of the regular season. Once the dust has settled on the Kansas Lottery 300, we will know which 12 drivers will be moving on and starting the playoffs next weekend. What all of that means is that we are in for an exciting race on Saturday, with everyone jockeying for position so as to be in the best possible standing once the playoffs begin. It is going to be interesting to see which drivers step up and which one’s crumble under the weight of all the pressure. The bookies have an idea of who they like, so let’s take a look at the current Xfinity odds for the Kansas Lottery 300.

John H. Nemechek
2019 was the last time Nemechek raced full time in the Xfinity Series, making it all the way to the Round of 8 before seeing his championship hopes coming to an end. He has the opportunity to end the regular season as the top ranked driver in the series, so he certainly has a solid reason to want to go out and get the win on Saturday. Nemechek has 5 wins, the most of any driver, this season, but it will all mean nothing if he doesn’t make it to the final four with a shot at winning it all. His last run in Kansas came back in 2019, when he finished 8th, but I think we can expect better in this one.

Justin Allgaier
When you write about sports, the goal is always to try and remain as impartial as possible. That said, I don’t think anyone, me included, would be too disappointed if Allgaier went on to win the Xfinity Series Championship this season. This is a guy who has been close so many times but who always seems to come up a little short when all is said and done. He is once again in the mix and ready to make another deep running, coming into this weekend sitting 3rd overall. Allgaier finished 2nd in this race last season, so expect him to be top 5 again.

Austin Hill
Hill made the move from the trucks to the Xfinity Series last season and had a very decent year, finishing 6th overall. It’s natural for drivers to want to improve with each passing season, and you have to say that Hill is right there, as he heads into this weekend sitting in 2n3 in the driver standings after picking up 4 wins this season. He did not have a particularly good run in Kansas last year, finishing outside the top 10, but after a podium finish last week, he looks primed for a good run.

Josh Berry
Speaking of drivers looking to improve on their previous showing in the Xfinity Series, Berry is one who has his work cut out to be better in 2023. After all, he made it all the way to 4th overall in his first full season at this level in 2022. Right now, he definitely has his work cut out for him, as he is sitting 8th overall heading into the final regular season race. Berry is still looking for his first win of the season, and after a 7th place finish in Kansas last year, this might not be the track where he breaks that goose egg.
