With the 2020 AFL campaign closing on the completion of its 12-game regular season schedule, it’s time to find out who’s in action this coming weekend and which teams are looking good against their respective AFL betting odds. With that thought in mind, let’s get down to business so you can place your bets against their AFL odds.
AFL Round 9 Events Preview – Odds and Picks
Adelaide Crows (0-8-0) vs. North Melbourne Kangaroos (2-6-0)
North Melbourne is sitting in 17th place in the 18-team AFL standings. The Kangaroos have scored 421 points this season while allowing a whopping 538 points defensively. Unfortunately, North Melbourne has lost six straight games and comes into this clash off a hard-fought 64-57 loss against Carlton on Saturday. Adelaide is in last place in the AFL standings and hits week 9 as the only winless team in the league. The Crows have scored 363 points this season while allowing a league-worst 610 points defensively. Adelaide nearly got their fist win of the season before falling against Essendon 62-59 on Saturday.
North Melbourne has won two of the last three meetings including a 71-59 home win a year ago. With that said, I’m going with North Melbourne to get the narrow win in this one, seeing as how they are playing at home and facing the worst defensive team in the league.
- Pick: Kangaroos 62 Crows 53
Sydney Swans (3-5-0) vs. St. Kilda Saints (5-3-0)
St. Kilda is in fifth place in the AFL standings. The Saints have scored 569 points while allowing 486 points defensively. St. Kilda has won two straight and comes into this contest off a resounding 73-44 road win over Port Adelaide on Saturday. Sydney is languishing in 14th place in the standings. The Swans have scored 446 points while allowing 533 points defensively. Sydney snapped a four-game losing streak by getting past Hawthorn 60-53 on Saturday.
While Sydney has won a whopping 10 straight games in this rivalry dating back to 2012, St. Kilda is now the slightly better team and they should have plenty of motivation to get it done in this one, seeing as how they want to remain in the top 8 and are playing at home.
- Pick: Saints 76 Swans 66
GWS Giants (4-4-0) vs. Gold Coast Suns (4-4-0)
Gold Coast is in 10th place in the AFL standings, having scored 518 points this season while allowing 482 points defensively. The Suns have lost three of their last four and come into this affair off a 51-46 home loss against the Bulldogs on Thursday. GWS is sitting in 12th place in the standings, having scored 523 points while allowing 524 points defensively. The Giants snapped a modest two-game skid by getting past Richmond 62-50 on Friday.
GWS has won four straight and seven of the last eight meetings in this rivalry including an emphatic 127-55 road win in round 23 last season. With both of these teams owning identical 4-4 records and having equal desperation coming into this clash, I’m going with Gold Coast to get the hard-fought win in this one, mostly because they’re playing at home and are statistically better at both ends of the pitch.
- Pick: Suns 64 Giants 58
Collingwood Magpies (4-3-1) vs. Fermantle Dockers (2-6-0)
Fermantle is sitting in 16th place in the 18-team standings, having scored 399 points while allowing 495 points defensively. The Dockers have dropped two in a row including an embarrassing 48-16 home loss against Geelong on Monday. Collingwood is in ninth place in the standings, having scored 476 points while allowing 409 points defensively. The Magpies had their modest two-game winning streak snapped in their discouraging 111-45 blowout loss against West Coast on Sunday.
Fremantle snapped a four-game losing streak against Collingwood by recording a narrow 79-75 road win last season, but I’m fully expecting the Magpies to get back on top in this rivalry as they sit just two points out of eighth place and need this win far more than Fremantle. Keep it simple and back Collingwood to get the hard-fought road win against a Fremantle team that is just too inconsistent to really back with any confidence.
- Pick: Magpies 72 Dockers 59
