Talking About the Season | Australian Football League

As the season enters its final stretch, every point counts!

This week, we’ll delve into the key clashes that could significantly impact the top eight picture.

For now, the Gold Coast Suns occupy the last spot in that top group.

The Suns will try to get some separation in Round 13 against St. Kilda, which is stuck toward the bottom of the AFL standings.

Most of the teams in the top 11 have had a difficult time separating themselves from everyone else.

Carlton Has Dynamic Attack

The Blues are hitting their stride offensively. Carlton scored more than 100 points during its previous two matches and won by 29 and 36 points.

The Blues are sitting in fifth place in the standings and would like to score more points to gain an edge in the tiebreaker.

Carlton, which is -195 to win the match, has had a diverse attack over the past few matches.

There are three or four players capable of scoring at any time.

The Blues will have their hands full with the Bombers. Essendon just had a four-match winning streak halted.

That was part of a stretch where the Bombers were on a seven-match unbeaten streak before losing to the Suns last week.

Essendon is +155 to win the match. The over/under is set at 170.5 points.

AFL Odds: Carlton -16.5 / Essendon -270; Carlton +164 / O/U 175.5

Suns Are a Narrow Home Favorite

Gold Coast has won three of its last four matches. The streak, which started against lowly North Melbourne, has included wins over Geelong and Essendon.

Now, the Suns will be challenged to push the pace against Saint Kilda.

The Saints, who are +107 to win the match, have needed help scoring.

Saint Kilda has been limited to 62 or more points in three of its past four games.

Last time, the Saints halted a three-game losing streak when they beat West Coast 82-68.

Gold Coast is a 3.5-point favorite, and the over/under is set at 162.5 points.

Ben King, who tied for a team-high four goals last match, has had an excellent season.

King has scored a team-high 36 goals this season.

The Suns are -132 on the moneyline and worth taking a shot on in this match.

Collingwood Needs to Get Act Together

The Magpies set the AFL on fire last season. Collingwood was excellent throughout the year as it picked up its first Grand Final win in over a decade.

The Magpies have had a more than nightmarish time being consistent this season.

Collingwood, which is -120 on the moneyline against Melbourne, started the season 0-3.

The Magpies have been forced to settle for two days this season and lost to Western by 18 last week.

Collingwood has played well defensively but hasn’t been dynamic enough on the attack to pull away.

Melbourne has lost three of its previous four matches. The Demons were hammered during their last match, losing by 92 points.

Melbourne is -105 to win the match, while the over/under is set at 166.5 points.

This match should go over the total.

AFL Betting – Round 13 Odds & Picks for August 22 and 23

Previous Betting News

Okay MyBookie AFL betting buffs, with the final week of the 2020 AFL regular season here, it’s time to take a look at who’s in action and which teams are offering the best value against their Australian Rules Football betting odds. To that end, I’ve highlighted three intriguing Week 13 matchups that all look like they’re offering some excellent betting value against their AFL odds.

AFL Odds and Picks for Round 13 August 22 & 23 Matches

Port Adelaide Power (9-3-0) vs Hawthorn Hawks (4-7-0)

When: Saturday, August 22 at 1:35 AM
Where: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide

Port Adelaide is sitting atop the AFL Ladder with 826 points scored and 648 points allowed. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the Power had their three-game winning streak emphatically snapped in their utterly embarrassing 91-31 road blowout loss against Geelong on Friday. Port Adelaide has dropped two of their last five including another humbling loss against St. Kilda (73-44) in Week 8. Hawthorn is in 16th place in the 18-team AFL ladder with 613 points scored and 743 points allowed defensively. The Hawks have lost two straight and six of their last seven including a discouraging 81-49 road loss against West Coast on Sunday.

There’s really no sense in beating around the bush with my pick on this Week 13 pairing. Port Adelaide is desperate to get back in the win column as they look to finish first in the standings while Hawthorn has absolutely nothing to play for except pride. Port Adelaide has scored 83 points or more in two of their last four games and the Power will get the easy win in their regular season finale.

Adelaide Crows (0-12-0) vs Geelong Cats (8-4-0)

Where: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
When: Saturday, August 22 at 10:05 PM

Yes, Adelaide has yet to win a single game this season as they sit in last place with a league-low 542 points scored and a league-high 990 points allowed, but there’s still hope the Crows can get the huge upset in this one right? Uh…no. There’s not. Geelong is sitting in third place in the AFL standings with 888 points scored and 721 points allowed. The Cats have won three straight and four of five and come into this affair off a stunning 91-31 blowout win over first place Port Adelaide on Friday. Now, with a chance to finish atop the AFL ladder with a win in Week 13 and a loss by Port Adelaide, there’s absolutely no way Geelong loses this matchup – and there’s no spread big enough to back Adelaide!

Brisbane Lions (9-3-0) vs St. Kilda Saints (8-4-0)

Where: Gabba, Brisbane
When: Sunday, August 23 at 12:35 AM

Brisbane is tied with Port Adelaide for first place in the AFL ladder with nine wins heading into Week 13. The Lions have scored 853 points while allowing 721 points defensively. Brisbane has won two straight and comes into this affair off a hard-fought 53-52 road win over North Melbourne on Friday. St. Kilda is sitting in fifth place in the AFL standings with 850 points scored and 734 points allowed. The Saints have won five of their lasts ix games and come into this matchup fresh off a convincing 68-33 win over Essendon on Sunday.

While St. Kilda is playing well and Brisbane looked lethargic at best last weekend, I like the Lions to get it done in this matchup. Brisbane needs a victory in this contest in order to challenge for a first place finish and they’ll get it although I’m expecting this one to be a knock-down brawl for it all.

I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
