Betting AFL Round 18 with Postseason Picture on Sight
Collingwood had a magical run through AFL last season.
The Magpies finished with the best record in the league and went on to win the Grand Final.
But this season finds the Magpies in a much different position after 18 rounds.
Collingwood is just outside the playoff picture and must pull themselves together to defend their crowd.
There are a lot of teams this week that will need to have a solid performance to make sure they are inching closer to the postseason.
Here’s a look at what to expect for this round.
Geelong hopes to extend Magpies’ suffering
Friday, July 12th, 2024
The Cats have put together back-to-back outstanding defensive performances.
Geelong has won both of those matches by a combined 96 points.
During those two victories, the Cats limited Essendon and Adelaide to 60 points or less.
Collingwood will have to adjust for this match as forward Brady Miocek was ruled out with an injury.
Jamie Elliott is expected to return from an injury if everything goes well during practice this week.
The Magpies have taken back-to-back losses by two goals or less.
Collingwood will need to find a way to close that gap as the season’s final stretch begins.
The Cats are -137 to win the match, while the Magpies are +113.
The over/under has been set at 169.5 points.
Geelong is a 4.5-point favorite.
Back the Cats to cover the spread and win the match.
Can Hawthorn Pull an Upset?
Saturday, July 13th, 2024
The Hawks’ 13th-place finish in the AFL standings doesn’t necessarily reflect their qualification.
Hawthorn is 8-8 and is caught in a logjam of several teams trying to grab one of the final spots in the playoffs.
The Hawks’ five-match winning streak was stopped during the last round.
Hawthorn saw a month’s worst progress go down the drain against Geelong.
The Hawks only scored 59 points in a 51-point loss.
Hawthorn will need to shake that off before it plays Fremantle this week.
The Dockers have won three straight matches.
Hawthorn suffered a rough injury last week as Mitch Lewis ruptured his ACL.
The Dockers are -132 to win this match, while Hawthorn is +107.
The over/under is set at 159.5.
Back Fremantle to win this one.
Can Gold Coast Stay in the Race?
Sunday, July 14th, 2024
If Gold Coast wants to break through the pack and make the top eight, there isn’t much margin for error.
The Suns have lost four of their past six matches.
Gold Coast has had a few rough bounces during this most recent streak, losing two of those four losses by four points or less.
Gold Coast will be without ruckman Jarrod Witts, who has a back injury.
Port Adelaide will be missing a key player as Mitch Georgiades who was suspended for one match due to rough play.
Port Adelaide has won consecutive matches.
Port Adelaide will need to find a way to attack aggressively to keep Gold Coast on the back foot.
The Suns are -162 to win, while Port Adelaide is +130.
The over/under has been set at 165.5 points.
Back this match to go over the total.

AFL Round 17 Betting Analysis for the Top Games of the Week
Previous Betting News
We are in the midst of one of the tightest AFL seasons in recent memory with every week seeming like a make or break for multiple teams. That’s no different heading into round 18 as six squads are within a game of the top spot in the ladder.
There are only two matchups between top eight teams as part of the round 18 slate, but those will have huge implications on the seeding heading into the home stretch of the 2022 campaign. Let’s check out some of the week’s biggest battles this week so you can bet against the AFL Odds.
Top AFL Round 18 Betting Games for the Week
Brisbane Lions (-15.5) vs Gws Giants, 7/15 11:45 PM ET
The Giants might be better than their 5-11 record would indicate, and not as bad as their three losses in the last four matches would indicate. Gws has had relatively competitive defeats to Collingwood and the Bulldogs over the past month, two teams vying for the final eight.
Regardless of Gws possibly being underrated, Brisbane is still a huge favorite on Friday as they are 11-5 and just a game off the pace for the top spot in the ladder. Brisbane suffered a defeat last week against Essendon mostly because they were depleted due to players being out for COVID protocols, but they’ve also lost five straight at Manuka Oval.
Geelong Cats (-8.5) vs Carlton Blues, 7/16 5:25 AM ET
The match of the round is definitely the new top spot holder Geelong (12-4) visiting Carlton (11-5) who currently holds the #5 place in the ladder. The Cats have rattled off seven wins in a row but are also in a letdown spot after last week’s 91-63 victory over the defending premiers Melbourne.
Carlton can stake their claim as legitimate contenders with a win on Saturday. The Blues have alternated wins and losses over the last seven matches though and are coming off a 116-53 victory over West Coast which has them trending towards a loss.
Sydney Swans vs. Fremantle Dockers (-9.5), 7/16 5:30 AM ET
The other match of top eight teams this round has Sydney (10-6) meeting Fremantle (12-4). The Dockers are tied with Melbourne and Geelong atop the ladder so are in a must-win situation each week likely from here on out.
The Swans are going to be a tough customer as winners of four of their last six matches. That being said the home team has won 13 of the last 14 between these two teams which gives Fremantle the value.
Port Adelaide Power vs. Melbourne Demons (-12.5), 7/17 1:20 AM ET
Melbourne has dipped to percentage points back from Geelong on the AFL table, falling last week to the Cats for their fourth defeat in the last six games. The Demons are still +202 to repeat as premiers and are hefty favorites against Port Adelaide. The Power have lost nine straight in this head to head series and look destined to have that streak reach double digits this weekend.
