Writer’s Picks for AFL Round 19 Top Matches

Collingwood Can’t Catch a Break

Saturday, July 20th, 2024

The Magpies seem to have used all of their goodwill when they won the Grand Final last season.

Collingwood now finds itself out of the top eight after losing three straight matches to fall to 8-7-2 on the season.

The Magpies have been held to 80 or fewer points in the last two rounds.

Collingwood has also been hit with a bad run and injuries.

Lachie Schutlz is in concussion protocol.

Collingwood could see Jeremy Howe and Mason Cox return from an injury.

Hawthorn has turned things around by winning six of its past seven matches.

The Hawks are -120 to win the match, while the Magpies are -104.

Hawthorn is a 1.5-point favorite.

The over/under is set at 168.5 points.

Back the Hawks to win this match.

Brisbane Ready for Big Matchup with Sydney

Sunday, July 21st, 2024

The Swans have mixed news heading into their match with Sidney this week.

Sydney will be without Justin McInerney, who has a PCL injury and will be out for the match.

Isaac Heeney returned from a one-match suspension.

The Swans are sitting on top of the ladder and will look to take on a surging Brisbane team.

The Lions have won six straight matches and look like one of the best teams in the competition.

Sydney snapped a two-match losing streak by beating up North Melbourne.

The Lions are -120 to win, while the Swans are -105.

Brisbane is a 1.5-point favorite to win the match.

The over/under is set at 173.5 points.

Back Brisbane to pick up another win.

GWS Giants Seek Third Straight Win

Sunday, July 21st, 2024

The Giants have scored more than 100 points during their previous two victories, double-digit wins over Carlton and Richmond.

GWS may have some injury issues for this match.

Stephen Coniglio is questionable after suffering a shoulder injury during the last match.

Lachie Weller may return to Gold Coast after recovering from an ACL injury.

The Suns and Gold Coast each need a result here.

The Suns are in 11th place but are just a game back from threatening to steal a spot in the top eight.

GWS is 10-7 and would be in the finals if the season ended today.

The Suns have won two of their past three matches.

GWS is -250 to win the match, while Gold Coast is +195.

The Giants are 16.5-point favorites.

The over/under has been set at 168.5 points.

GWS should take care of Gold Coast in this matchup.

AFL Round 19 Betting Analysis for the Top Games of the Week

Previous Betting News

The 2022 AFL continues to be one of the more competitive ones in recent memory. Heading into round 19, there are seven teams still within just two games of the top spot in the ladder.

Geelong and Melbourne are both still tied atop the ladder with 52 points. They should each cruise to victories in round 19, but the point spreads may say otherwise. Here are five of the most hotly contested matches of the upcoming weekend. Let’s jump right into action so you can place your bets against the AFL Odds.

Top AFL Round 19 Betting Games for the Week

Richmond Tigers vs Fremantle Dockers (-1.5), Friday 5:50 AM ET

What happened to Richmond last weekend? The Tigers had what looked like was going to be a breeze of a matchup against last-place North Melbourne, but the Kangaroos pulled out the 92-88 upset for just their second win of the season. That was a devastating defeat for a Richmond team trying to hold on to the eight spot.

Fremantle is not playing their best down the stretch either, losing to Sydney last weekend. That’s losses in two of the last four rounds for the Dockers, who were still able to hold on to the four spot.

Richmond had won four straight in the head-to-head series before last year’s defeat, but the Tigers have also dropped four in a row at Marvel Stadium, which gives the Dockers better value.

Port Adelaide Power vs Geelong Cats (-8.5), Saturday 2:35 AM ET

Geelong and Melbourne look like they will duke it out over the final five rounds of 2022 as both are tied atop the ladder with 52 points. The Cats looked dominant in last week’s 85-55 win over Carlton and will have revenge on their mind after losing to Port Adelaide 86-43 in last season’s qualifying final.

Port will play a top team for the second week in a row after their 83-69 loss to Melbourne in round 18. They have solid momentum, just a game back from the top eight even after starting the season 0-5.

Brisbane Lions (-22.5) vs Gold Coast Suns, Saturday 5:10 AM ET

The Q-Clash isn’t expected to be a close one, with Brisbane favored by a large margin. That makes sense due to the Lions winning seven straight in the head-to-head series.

Western Bulldogs vs Melbourne Demons (-8.5), Saturday 5:25 AM ET

A rematch of the 2021 Grand Final that Melbourne went on to dominate 140-66. The Dees also picked up a 97-71 win to kick off 2022 in fashion in round one, so the Bulldogs look overmatched here even as they scratch and claw to try and overtake Richmond for the eight spot.

Collingwood Magpies (-5.5) vs Essendon Bombers, Sunday 1:20 AM ET

Collingwood isn’t favored by as much as one would think on the heels of an eight-match win streak, but that’s because Essendon is playing well also, with victories in four of their last five and against finals contenders. The Dons suffered an 11-point loss on Anzac Day, so is revenge in the cards?
