AFL Round 20 Ready to Produce Memorable Moments

Writer’s Picks for AFL Round 20

Carlton vs Port Adelaide

Carlton are the nearest challengers to Sydney in the regular standings at this stage, but they are unlikely to catch their rivals over the final few months of the regular season, as they sit eight points behind their rivals at this late stage.

However, they come into this round after winning 12 from 18 this term, and have won of the best point percentages in the competition.

Port Adelaide will have the greater need to win this weekend, as they are just four points ahead of ninth-place Western Bulldogs.

They have bounced back to form after winning two of their last four matches, which includes a decent win at home against Richmond last Saturday.

But, the preference is for the home side to continue their gallant hunt at the top of the standings by landing a victory.

Pick: Carlton (-244)

Melbourne vs GWS Giants

Two teams that still have aspirations of finishing in the playoff spots in the AFL this season will collide across the coming weekend.

The current advantage rests with the Giants, as they sit fifth in the overall standings after winning eleven of their 18 matches this term.

But, their advantage in the race for the playoff positions sits at just four points, meaning that they are set for a nervy end to the campaign.

Melbourne will see this as a must-win encounter in front of their home fans, as they sit two points outside of the playoff positions at this late stage of the campaign.

Their two-game winning run was brought to an end last weekend after falling short against Fremantle, but being back in front of their home fans should raise their performance levels, and that makes them a sound selection on Saturday.

Pick: Melbourne (-133)

Sydney vs Bulldogs

The table-leading Sydney will be back in action this weekend, as they look to take another step toward securing their position at the top of the ladder ahead of the start of the playoffs.

Sydney boast the best point percentage in the competition this term at 142.4%, and that currently gives them an eight-point advantage over the chasing pack.

They have won 14 of their 18 matches this term, and their place at the top of the game could be cemented with Grand Final success in a few months time.

However, Bulldogs look capable of giving Sydney a good game this weekend, as they have won ten of their 18 matches this term, and they will require a victory to enhance their chances of a playoff finish this term.

However, it could be challenging to bet against the Swans, who are looking for an instant return to winning ways following defeat in Brisbane last weekend.

Pick: Sydney (-294)

AFL Round 20 Betting Analysis for the Top Games of the Week

Previous Betting News

With just four rounds left in the AFL regular season the top of the ladder is still anybody’s to claim. Geelong (14-4) has the lead but Melbourne, Brisbane, and Collingwood are all right in the hunt at 13-5 while 12-5-1 Fremantle could still make a run as well.

Melbourne vs. Fremantle highlights round 20 action, but there are upset opportunities across the league. Here are the best AFL Betting games for Round 20.

Top AFL Round 20 Betting Games for the Week

Melbourne Demons (-1.5) vs Fremantle Dockers (-1.5), Friday 6:10 AM ET

Fremantle is coming off a 52-52 draw against Richmond last week, which has hurt their chances of staying in the hunt for the top spot on the ladder. An upset win over Melbourne would put the Dockers right back in the mix though, and would pull Fremantle even in the win column with the Demons.

Melbourne is a top tier team and still one of the favorites to win the Grand Final, but they were beaten by the Bulldogs last week for their fifth loss over the last eight matches. That’s just too much inconsistency.

Port Adelaide Power vs Collingwood Magpies (-6.5), Friday 11:45 PM ET

The Magpies are one of the hottest teams in the AFL with nine straight wins, even if last week’s 80-76 victory over Essendon was closer than expected. Collingwood is at home and gets reinforcements with Jordan De Goey returning from a quad injury.

Port Adelaide cannot be immediately counted out here because they did play top ranked Geelong well in a 106-94 loss last Saturday. That’s still three defeats in the last four for the Power and soon to be four out of five.

Western Bulldogs vs Geelong Cats (-19.5), Saturday 5:25 AM ET

Top ranked Geelong has matched Collingwood with a nine game win streak and they sit four points clear of the next closest competitor on the ladder. The Cats are at home, but is 19.5 too many points to be giving up in this matchup?

The Dogs have climbed into the top eight with their win over Melbourne last week, but was that a sign of the Dogs playing better or the Dees just in a massive slump? Either way this looks like a contest to take the points in.

Brisbane Lions vs Richmond Tigers (-2.5), Sunday 1:20 AM ET

Richmond suffered the unfortunate draw last week – but on the bright side it’s better than a loss. Tigers star Dustin Martin remains sidelined which is not ideal heading into a game with the best offense in the AFL while also trying to move from 10th into the top eight.

It was another winning performance from the Lions last Saturday in a 110-93 victory over Gold Coast. Some may have thought Brisbane should have been more dominant, but they held on to the number three spot in the ladder regardless. Things could get tougher at MCG though, where Brisbane is 0 for their last 10 meaning play Richmond.
