AFL Round 21 Ready to Produce Memorable Moments

The end of the regular AFL season is creeping into sight, and there will be pressure on all teams in the competition to pick up the points required to finish in a playoff spot over the next three weeks.

The 21st round of matches will be staged across the coming weekend in Australia, but what are the standout matches set to take place?

Writer’s AFL Picks for the 21st Round of the Season

Bulldogs vs Melbourne

The action in the latest round of AFL matches will get underway with an excellent clash between the Bulldogs and Melbourne.

Both sides are still in the hunt for a place in the playoffs, but the firm advantage rests with the hosts, who currently sit eighth.

Melbourne will need a dominant end to the season if they are to keep their hopes of a playoff finish alive, as they currently sit down in eleventh after winning ten of their 19 matches this term.

The Bulldogs hold the advantage on the bare form after winning each of their last three, which includes a fine success over Sydney last weekend.

Their case is only made stronger based on the fact that Melbourne have lost each of their last two.

AFL Pick: Bulldogs (-357)

Collingwood vs Carlton

The reigning premiership champions are in a race against time to secure their place in the playoffs this season.

Collingwood were the dominant force in the AFL last term, but that hasn’t continued during the current campaign.

They currently sit down in 12th in the standings, and they are four points adrift of the top eight.

Confidence will certainly be taken by the defending champions, as they ended a four-game losing sequence in the previous round of matches when getting the better of Richmond.

However, this is yet another must-win showdown.

However, Carlton could be the standout play for betting purposes this weekend.

They come into this match after winning 12 of their 19 matches this term to sit fourth in the standings, and they have also won twice in their last four.

AFL Pick: Carlton (-233)

GWS Giants vs Hawthorn

Hawthorn look to continue their hunt for a playoff finish in the AFL this weekend when they travel to the GWS Giants.

The visitors come into this round of matches sitting ninth in the standings, but they are only outside of the top eight on points difference.

They have won eleven of their 19 matches this term, which includes victories in each of their last three.

However, the Giants will also have pressure on their shoulders, as they look to secure their place in the playoff spots.

They come into this round sitting in fifth after winning 12 of their 19 matches in the AFL this term.

A victory could see them end the round as high as second this weekend.

They look hard to oppose after winning each of their last four matches in the competition.

But, it could be a very close encounter between two of the in-form teams in the AFL at this late stage of the season.

AFL Pick: GWS Giants (-149)

AFL Round 21 Betting Analysis for the Top Games of the Week

Previous Betting News

There are just three matches left before the 2022 AFL Finals, with each one seemingly a must win for teams at the top of the ladder. Geelong continues to hold the top spot at 15-4, but somebody is going to drop as 14-5 Melbourne and 14-5 Collingwood square off in the premier contest of the weekend.

There are a couple of other very important matches this weekend throughout the ladder, here are some of the best matchups for round 21. Let’s get right to it so you can place your bets against the AFL Betting Odds.

Top AFL Round 21 Betting Games for the Week

Melbourne Demons (-312) vs Collingwood Magpies, Friday 4:50 AM ET

The Dees are looking for revenge for a second straight week, avenging a 94-56 loss to Fremantle at the end of May with a 65-39 victory last Friday. Melbourne also lost to Collingwood 82-56 on June 13th so they are aiming for another season split.

This is a huge matchup as both teams are tied with 56 points, a win back from top seed Geelong. The Magpies are red hot with 10 straight wins, but they have a tough gauntlet with top four Melbourne this week and top four Sydney next Sunday. Some will say the Collingwood win streak hasn’t come against the best competition, but that +184 has value for a team with momentum.

Western Bulldogs (-222) vs Fremantle Dockers, Saturday 1:35 AM ET

This is a huge matchup for Fremantle, who is a game back from Sydney for the four spot in the ladder. The Dockers finish with West Coast and GWS – two of the worst three teams in the AFL – so Saturday is basically their last big test before the Finals.

The problem for Fremantle is that the Dogs are fighting for their life just a win back from a top eight spot. The Dogs picked up a win over second place Melbourne and had a big lead over top seed Geelong before losing it over the past two weeks, so they’re playing well.

Geelong Cats (-909) vs St. Kilda Saints, Saturday 4:25 AM ET

St. Kilda doesn’t get a great draw in their quest to hold on to the eight spot in the AFL ladder, matched up with the top seeded Cats in round 21. The Saints end up with #5 Brisbane and #4 Sydney as well so their Finals chances really are holding on by a thread, especially with Richmond and the Dogs both within a game.

Geelong looks like they’ll cruise to a top seed finish. After playing eighth seed St. Kilda on Saturday the Cats finish up with Gold Coast and West Coast who are both bottom eight teams. Melbourne and Collingwood both need one of those teams to step up and stop the Cats nine match win streak.

Brisbane Lions (-270) vs Carlton Blues, Sunday 12:20 AM ET

Carlton’s Michael Voss squares off against his old club on Sunday with plenty on the line for both teams. The Blues loss to #15 Adelaide last Saturday which isn’t ideal with Carlton trying to hold onto a top eight spot. Brisbane is also coming off a loss 104-97 to Richmond, suffering some key late injuries that may affect their play on Sunday.
